Jessie Bates III, S, Wake Forest

I’ve been feeling like this guy was the most underrated safety in this class, and I just saw he’s 4th in Mayock’s top 5 at the position. He’s officially on my radar at 54 if he tests like I expect him to.

Side note: the sideline reporter was talking about how Sean McDermott likes DB’s with a baseball background because of their ability to track the ball. Bates was one of the guys they mentioned with a baseball background.

I know the Chiefs need safeties but I feel like they've put so many damn resources into the safety spot in the last 3 or 4 years with not a lot to show for it.

Eh we also haven’t drafted one in the first two days during Reid’s tenure. Probably time to do that.

Wasn't Murray a 3rd rounder?

4th, that year there was a CB drafted in the third who was terrible and got cut, but I forget his name...

I really like him as a Ron Parker replacement. He has really good ball skills and we need that in our secondary.

I've watched this kid quite a bit and he's hella good as a coverage safety. My concern is his frame and his ability to tackle at the NFL level (he's had problems there in college). I do like him, but he's certainly locked into a single-high only type of role in the NFL and he's not going to help this team's tackling ability.

Eh he’s a better tackler than Ron Parker. That’s for sure.

I really don't think so. I think you're getting a slightly slower Ron Parker with better ball skills. My opinion though.
