Open World Cause Megathread

Update 8/4/14:

We did it! Thanks to your incredible support and our organizational partners around the world, we were able to break ground on a new school that will provide education to deserving students in a rural community in Nepal. In addition to providing educational access, the school will serve first hub of clean, running water for the community.

We are now turning our sights to traveling to the school next summer to build a fourth classroom (this will allow the school to accept and educate every available child in the community) and teach a group of students for a month next summer. Any more of your support would be incredibly appreciated.

Thank you all again.

As in physical supplies? It's rather difficult due to the insane tariff Nepal applies to items shipping inside the country.

There are so many things you could do to help us out!

If you want to give us a straight up contribution, we have donate feature built in to our website's front page. http://www.openworldcause.com/

If you would rather not give us money, it would still help us out immensely if you liked our facebook page: (https://www.facebook.com/openworldcause) and then told your friends and family about what we're trying to accomplish.

If you would be interested, we also have a flyer you could post up around your community. While it seems small, these flyers have done so much to expand our mission throughout the country.

Lastly, if you have any ideas on how we can get the word out, we would be all ears!

The graphic is clever. I like it. I suspect it goes over the head of lots of people though. Most people aren't as quick on the uptake as you would like. So maybe less clever on the next one and more direct.

Keep working hard, dude. It takes a lot of time to get established and gain credibility. I'm not talking in terms of months or years either. Most big donors want to see a charity with 7, 8, 9 years of longevity before they're going to throw big checks your way. Keep at it. It can happen. Just got to get in front of the right person.

This is right in my wheelhouse. It's a humanitarian effort to empower children through education. It's a noble effort and I thank you for it.

Plan on seeing me as a legitimate, consistent, donor in 2014 and beyond. As my fortunes have grown over the last couple of years, I'm getting to where I'm looking for places to donate. You'll be one of them. I like the project, but also as important, I like the fact that you're a ****ing high school kid putting this kind of work, and effort into something clearly near and dear to your heart. I am not trying to put you on front street by advertising that you're a teenager, but I want to make sure people understand the scope of this thing. Not only the progress you've made for these kids, but the progress you're making for yourself.

I admire it. A great deal. And I want to see it succeed on a variety of levels. If you haven't gotten some cash from me by summer time (I'm off work for the next 3 months, so it's not even an option right now) I want you to remind me. I'm not blowing smoke up your ass here. I'll try to start off with $500 so you know I'm serious. Keep it up!

1 more thing. While I agree with Phil that Another brick in Nepal is going to go over people's heads, I personally LOVE it.

Just a bump to make sure that everyone had a chance to share this on their FaceBook pages.

Update: Over the last six months, Open World and the SAV School were able to secure a partnership with Edukado, an organization based in Belgium that constructs schools for underresourcded communities.

We are thrilled to announce that from the combined financial support of Open World, Edukado, and organizations known as Project Purus and Namri, they were able to break ground on a school with clean water in late July.

The school will be the only hub of clean, running water throughout the community, and will provide educational access to deserving students for the coming generations.

I want to thank you all again for your incredible support, this breakthrough would not have happened without you.

We are now turning our sights to traveling to the SAV School next summer to help build a fourth classroom (for preschool and kindergarten students) and to teach a classroom of students for the month we're there. Any more support whatsoever would be incredibly appreciated . Thank you all again!
