I believe I was off about Bortles being a sack of shit flying out of a truck. Kid looks pretty damn good...and it's weird watching it come from a Jaguar... Not used to them having a potentially elite dude behind center.
I will say this though... his passes seem to have an awkward, sudden downward slope right before the ball falls into his receivers' hands. It's weird. I think that is what threw me off when I watched him prior to the draft....gave me the illusion that his passes are wobbly. Hey, he's seemingly making it work... There's something unique about the way he throws the ball and the spin he puts on it that makes him totally unique, IMO. |

There are plenty of examples that prove otherwise, but sure.

Great QBs found after the 1st, can make all the throws, or weren't drafted by the team they became great with? Some of the greatest QBs in the history of the NFL weren't 1st round picks or won with another team. Tom Brady Joe Montana Steve Young Joe Theismann Bart Starr Roger Staubach Matt Hasselbeck Rich Gannon Tony Romo Curt Warner Dan Fouts Fran Tarkenton Johnny Unitas Etc, etc Arguably the greatest QBs in the history of the NFL weren't 1st round draft picks. (Montana, Brady, Starr, Unitas were all drafted in the 3rd or later.) Does taking one in the 1st round improve your chances? Sure, but it largely depends on the quality of the QBs in that draft class. Just taking one for the sake of drafting a 1st round QB (Bills with EJ Manuel in 2013) in a crappy class will just set you back. Now if a blue chip QB prospect is available (think Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning, etc) by all means, go for it. If they aren't then it's better to wait, draft an elite player at a different position, and take your shot at a QB in the 2nd or later rounds while adding stronger pieces at other positions with your higher picks which will give whatever QB you bring in a better chance and less pressure to succeed. |

Bortles definitely has a cannon, you thinking otherwise means you havent watched him play and just read analysis about him on messageboards and the internet.

Yeah you can wait until the third and pick up a Joe Montana...but he's a lot more likely to be some asshole with an average arm who can't hack it.

History shows us that there's an average of 1 guy per draft who will become a starter in the NFL at QB. Bortles is the one for this draft.

I saw that bomb to Lee. The guy looks good. The Jags had a great offseason.
