Family vacation
We were toying around with doing a driving trip to Myrtle Beach, SC but before we book I want to touch on another option with the CP travel nuts.

Driving to Orlando which surprisingly is only 1 hour further. It will be the hottest time of year unfortunately but I wanted to know about how much you can get done in one day at Universal Studios and Seaworld. The rest of the time would be Cocoa Beach or some other beach.

The entire family would be going so it will be a LONG 2 day road trip going there and getting back. We would also only have 5 full days to enjoy the stuff around us.

Opinions.

Update - We are booked for Orlando now so I'm only looking for suggestions close to there.

I need to go research again, but i read a few months ago they had a special fast pass for Universal Hotel guests?

Whatever the case, IMO the fast passes are totally worth it for the bigger "destination" parks like Universal which can get pretty crowded.

If you stay on site at universal at any of the hotels except the new one you get front of the line with your room key. When we live in Orlando I had a friend who worked at one I the hotels and she would print is room keys for the day and we'd get front of the line whenever we wanted!

Well, Islands of Adventure was pretty much a let down. Has a few fun rides but 3 breakdowns in one day on the 3 big rides plus all the sit down food places closing at 6pm really made for a miserable evening.

Next time will be Disney all the way.

I spoke with managers of three different sit down meal places and they all said this is normal for universal because people start leaving after 6pm.

Disney never does this.

I found the rides rather disappointing as well. Hulk didn't compare to the coasters at Cedar Point. Spiderman was entertaining but only good one time. Harry Potter was a great line queue but the ride was kind of meh compared to Soarin at Epcot. The rides I really enjoyed were the water rides,which is odd for me because rarely care for them. Dudley doo-rite was great as well as the Popeye river raft ride. Got soaked on both.

We debated on taking in Universal Studios because we wanted to do something we hadn't done before....but when we bought the Disney tickets we got an extra day for free. So, it was either free day, or pay for Universal. Not a tough decision.

Looks like there are tons of restaurants in the Universal Studios city walk area. Can you not get to that without needing re-admittance to the park?

We are staying at a onsite hotel (Loews Pacific I believe) and getting the extra hour and shorter lines. 1 day for Universal and 1 day for Island of Adventure.
