Corry tweeted late last week, informing fans that “Johnson can apply for reinstatement at any time. [His] old deal [would] count [against the] Lions’ salary cap upon return, which would likely lead to release.”

So Johnson signs a mega-deal on a dead-end team...gets frustrated when said team is, in fact, a dead-end then retires. He waits until the team moves on and allocates his bloated salary to other players yet can still reinstate himself at any time...choosing to do so when they cant afford him anymore. This would force his release...

It would set a very dicey precedence for disgruntled star players on shitty franchises....

This happening would definitely exploit what may be loop hole. If this works then the next CBA the owners will have in place a no return policy. When you retire you can never return.

Or maybe you can return, but it's at the league minimum. You would have to earn another big payday.

This sounds really bizarre, but if he comes back then for sure he was/is a quitter.

Playing in Detroit can kill your soul... I think it's a bit cowardly to do this, feel the same with Lynch. If you retire and want to come back, go to the team you quit on. But, if it works out this way, who's to really blame him, if that's how you can manipulate the system?

The Raiders are not what the have been for the last decade plus... and if they add him at WR, that's one hell of a threat. Only 31 years old with 9 years under his belt, the guy has several years left.

31 year old WRs lose speed at a rapid rate. I wonder what Crabtree and Cooper think of this?

And the one question that needs to be asked is what about the Raiders cap situation? $11 million is no small chunk.

The players association is all about the players- There's no way they'll allow a new CBA that would prohibit players from unretiring-

NFL teams are like most companies- they expect you to put in your 2 week notice when you're leaving but won't give you 2 weeks when they fire your arse-

Megatron is filthy rich- If he plays for Oakland his sole reason is to try and win a ring- I'd venture to guess he'll play in and around the 3-4 million range- much like Lynch... 2 year 7 million all guaranteed might be what to expect

Maybe. I hope that doesn't happen. The last thing Derek Carr needs is another big time weapon.
