Should Mike have sent Alex?

Should Jirschele have sent Alex home on that play? I think he would of been out by a mile but it would of put pressure on crawford to make the throw and posey to catch and tag. What say you?

As an objective fan, I'm on the fence. Bum was on the mound so I can see taking the chance even though I think he would've been out easily. The cutoff throw hit shortstop as he was starting to round third IIRC. But it would've forced the Giants to make a good throw, which on that play the outfielders ****ed up twice. So I can see both sides. But I'd side with Alex being out by a country mile.

Might have a better chance of pinch running Gore for Alex and having him steal home.

No.

Pinch run Gore for Gordon. Steal home. Bumgarner was throwing pitches over Salvy's head. Posey would have had to of reached up to catch the ball & then reached down to tag Gore.

How do you figure? Going for the inside the parker would have been "leaving it all out on the field" so to speak. If they get gunned out, hey, you went for it. You put pressure on their D to make a play. That would have been a hell of a way to go out, or tie up the game. They would have even received a longer standing O than they did.

Obviously it's hard to fault the 3B coach there, the ball is way in the OF being kicked around, and difficult to time it. Not a situation they see all the time, but looking in hindsight, absolutely wish he would have gone. As others have said, the chance he makes it safe is AT LEAST as high as Salvy getting a hit against the dominant Bumgarner.

A little math: If Gordon is running at 15 mph which is about average, he is traveling at 22 feet per second. So he needs 4.09 seconds to reach home. If Crawford throws the ball at 85 miles per hour, which most shortstops can, the ball is traveling at 124 feet per second. So If Crawford is say halfway between home plate and the all that is about 150 feet. The ball needs 1. 2 seconds to reach home plate. Gordon would have been out by 43 feet. Just go back at watch how close Crawford made it on the play where Butler scores. Almost the same distance and Butler was halfway down the line when Crawford threw the ball.
Right, but all it takes is a bad throw. They throw a bad throw there at least 1/3 times.

A bad throw still gets a guy out thats ****ing 43 feet short of making it to home.

The throw would have to have been a ****ing disaster for him to be safe.

You guys are simply using what happened afterwards to make up your mind. No 3rd base coach in the league sends the runner when he hasn't reached 3rd yet and the cutoff man has the ball already. NONE!

I was looking for the collision of all collisions at home plate. But after seeing that picture Gordon would have had to chase him down at the celebration at the mound to **** him up.

I don't know shit about the Royals, but is there anyone they could have pinch hit for Perez that could be counted on to lay down a bunt? With the way everyone was swinging and missing and how he was throwing everything up, I might have gone with a squeeze play after watching 4 2/3 of shutout baseball.

This I know.

Would have needed someone that could beat out a good bunt. Maybe Dyson? But it probably would have been a bit too obvious sending a lefty up there with 36 SB's on the year.

Hell, Dyson did it earlier in the year...

The 43 feet stat makes it obvious that it was the right call but getting tagged out at home on a close play would have been infinitely more bad ass than a pop out to end the series. Also, salvy hit the GW hit in the WC game, you dance with the girl that brought you in that situation. Anyone honestly thinks Willingham had a shot to get a hit off MB there?
