The counting stats and Coors make him look much better than what he actually is, which is a AAAA player.
If I were the Royals, I would be reluctant to sign a hitter that plays for the Rockies. Coors Field makes pitchers look bad and hitters look good.

I didn't realize how bad it got for Blackmon in the second half. Ouch.

The Rockies guy that makes the most sense/seems like the best fit for KC to me is actually Drew Stubbs. i don't buy his significant improvement against RH in 2014 as a long-term thing yet, but he would be an interesting platoon partner for Jarrod Dyson. He's a RH bat with good pop against lefties and a career .823 OPS against them, and he's got a good defensive reputation.

It would seem Stubbs could offer the opportunity to sacrifice very little defense with Dyson out of the game while offering a major offensive upgrade against lefties. He's also an effective and efficient base stealer, which fits what the Royals like to do.

The biggest problem with Stubbs is that his likely unsustainable good year against righties probably inflates his value too much.

isn't it also a reasonable expectation our entire team won't stay as healthy as they did all this year?

Tougher to predict in baseball than in football. An injury to Perez at some point is probably inevitable if he catches 150 games a year and you always have to know it could come to a power arm, but most everyday players should be counted on most seasons.

I don't think we'll see Perez behind the plate nearly as much next year.

I think he starts 120 games at C and about 30 at DH.

Side note:

Heard a name I've been touting (kennedy - due to his connection to Eiland) over lunch from my best source.

I also heard one I hadn't thought about... Ervin Santana.

The Braves will almost certainly give him the qualifying tag, but the Royals might be willing to sacrifice that first round pick this year (much easier to do with No. 29) if the price/years are right.

Starting to think the reason I'm sad today is less that we lost and more that the most fun month of my baseball life is over. No more games until April.

I really hope Sal spends the entire offseason figuring out how to take a more patient approach at the plate. Because the book is out on him now.

I dont think he can. I really don't think you can learn plate discipline once you've been in the league for a while. That's what your teen and minor league yrs are for. Ive just seen so few mlb players be able to develop their patience. To some extent i think its just god given. He needs to focus on using all fields more imo

I think it can improve a little bit if he's still young, but generally this is right, he will never be a high-OBP guy. The best he can do is learn to hit to all fields and build more power.

The only two guys I mentioned last month were Santana and Hunter, as they fit obv needs and seem like they'd be ok playing here.

Heyman reports today we may pursue hunter
