Ten Things About Today's Game

Ten Things About Today's Game

10. This weekend has been a great time to live in Kansas City. The Royals clinched their second World Series in a row Friday night with a thrilling ninth inning shutdown of Toronto. The weather here is perfect, the trees and turning colors, and as Bill Grigsby used to say "It's a Beau-ti-ful Day for football." When your team is 1-5, you don't expect much. So today was pretty stress free. Nothing really riding on today's game. Pittsburgh is in a fight for the NFC North, so this game meant much more to them. This morning I thought this would be a good time to use the Ten Things to show some of our CPers who don't live in KC, and have never been to Arrowhead, what the tailgate thing looks like. So I took my camera and snapped some pictures as the morning progressed. We'll do a little of that before talking game stuff.

Spoiler!

Fisher was defending a team mate who was about to get hurt by a pittsburgh defender. Maybe you should review that before talking shit.

Look at the play. The Pittsburgh DBack leg whips West, which is bad, but was not called a penalty by the refs. Grubbs and Kelce are already there standing over West, and Grubbs was getting the Steeler D-Back off of West. Fisher runs up well after the play is over, with two of his team mates already there, leans over and talks shit, right in front of the ref. All that accomplishes is moving the team back from the spot of gain. If you want to get even, kill that D-back next time we run a stretch play to his side. There's no excuse for getting penalized for running your yap. That's not smart football, I don't care how dirty the other team is.

This wasn't just happening this game. The Chiefs have been getting cheap shotted all year. I really don't care for the Chiefs getting pushed around.

West got a 15 yard penalty I'm guessing because the offense reacted to Shazier hitting Alex on a slide. Fisher reacting to West getting his knee twisted.

I get your take but I don't really agree here. For most teams, sure. But for a team like KC that's been getting pushed around, 15 yards is fine with me if they're making a statement that they're not going to put up with getting pushed around.

For a team that has been exhibiting the fire of a bic lighter, I can let it slide. Pretty good sign for a 1-5 team..usually it gets worse. They played inspired.

Something else that slid, was the blatant hold against Smith on Bell's long run late in the game.

Hey, believe me, I understand getting sick of dirty play. We're in the same division with Oakland and Denver, two of the worst offenders in the history of the NFL. But you have to pick your spots. "Taunting" is weak sauce. You keep your lip zipped, and you pound that little cheap shotting d-back the next time you run the ball to his side. If Fisher is going to get an unsportsman like penalty, pick the ankle twisting little creep up off the ground and throw him into the cheap seats. Don't "taunt him" like a Frenchman on a castle wall. And for sure don't do it after a run for a first down, and don't do it a foot in front of a ref with an itchy hankie pocket.

yea, whatever

It's about time someone started standing up for the team. Most of the time they don't act like they give a shit. Fisher did it twice today. I'll take the penalty.

I was watching NFL films Biography on Seattle Wide Receiver Steve Largent a couple nights ago. There was a game in Denver where Largent is running a slant over the middle, and this head hunting Safety for Denver named Mike Hardin cheap shots Largent right in the face, knocks out two teeth and put Largent out cold. A couple of weeks later, Denver is playing at Seattle in the Kingdome. Hardin picks off an overthrown pass by Krieg, starts his return, and out of nowhere come Largent, who knocks the living shit out of Hardin, separates him from the football, and Largent recovers the fumble.

That's how you get even.

If I remember what precipitated the reaction by Fisher I gotta disagree with you on the one GB. And granted I only saw it once but it really looked like he was trying to hurt his ankle in some kind of ankle lock (not 'bar' as my previous illustration) and that's cheap as it comes. Hopefully Fisher's nuts just dropped. Finally.

I would like to see it again however if nothing else to forward the GIF to the NFL and say WTF but it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong either.

See post #19. You're right. It was a dirty play, absolutely.

But I get what GB is saying, even if I disagree that Fisher was in the wrong.

I have to agree with George.

This team is the type that has to play sound fundamental football. We can't afford to give up 15 yard chunks at crucial moments in games.

Internalize that rage and use it on the next play.

I remember that play. Even as a Chiefs fan I LOVED watching Largent play.

Steve Largent and Al Toon were my two big NFL crushes before the Chiefs came onto my radar.
