good for those it helped but i've just not heard a single person get tested and come back and say 'all good'. It's always 'they say i stopped breathing 20 times at night and could die!!'

I would imagine most people that go to a sleep study have something wrong. If everything was all roses, why would they go do a study? |

See post #28. Why would you get a sleep apnea test unless there have been problems? Most of the time for years.

I don't want to point out the obvious because it isn't always true, but many people who are diagnosed with sleep apnea are overweight. We asked my FIL to get a sleep study because he does the loudest snoring things and wakes himself up violently. He went on to lose about 30 lbs and it's much better now.

I am significantly overweight, and I'm trying to lose weight. Unfortunately, there are some health issues that make losing weight more difficult for me than others.

I lost 175lbs & still have sleep apnea. I lowered my number but still have it...Dr says it's a mental thing with me. I breathe fine on my side but I always end up on my back & I stop breathing then. I couldn't sleep without the CPAP.

I'll chime in here...
I had my first sleep study done circa 2003 - I was told that everyone has sleep apena - everyone stops breathing a few times at night while they sleep - but the study is to determine if you need outside interference to keep your O2 level in the safe range. In 2003 I was told I didn't need a cpap but if I didn't start loosing weight then I would need one.. FF to 2009/2010(I can't remember) - Had sleep study...TA DA - needed Cpap... Not exciting. I used it for a while at first but I kept taking it off at night - then it would hurt my nose. Stopped for 6 mo - tried to use it again when fresh supplies arrived - did for about 3-4 mo then started taking it off at night... I haven't even messed with it in over a year... I haven't tired to use it for almost 2. I snore a lot - I'm over weight - I'm trying to lose weight too - could do a better job. I wish I was a success story like most of you but I just can't seem to sleep with that thing on |

I'm getting a sleep study done sometime this week. I snored so hard that my throat/nasal passage feels swollen. I am about 6'0, 220...bulky, but most definitely have some extra cushioning I'd like to lose.
I feel like I have an obstruction in my sinuses or something. Even when I am awake and breathe through my nose in a certain position, I become more snorty than I assume the average person becomes. I've heard that once a person is treated for sleep apnea, they usually lose 10+ pounds in the first couple weeks because they feel more energized. |

Went in last weekend for the CPAP fitting. I haven't decided whether or not to fill to prescription... I guess I should, but I already have some medical equipment in my bedroom, and I'm really resisting adding more.

I've had a mouthpiece for about of week to stop teeth grinding and apnea.. It's not the funnest thing in the world but I guess it'll help me not die.

CPAP is amazing. I feel so much better since I've been using it.
