Star Wars Rogue One Spoiler Thread

There's quite a bit of info trickling out so its probably time to start a spoiler thread. I'll update with a trailer when it's available.

Trailer #1. This looks amazing!!! Darth Vader, The Emperor, Jyn (Rey's mother?), Forrest Whitaker, Donnie Yen and Alan Tudyk.

Here's a link to Part 1 of 7. If you like this, you'll like them all.

For some reason I watched it not too long ago.

The only interesting moment of the entire movie for me came when Dooku revealed Darth Sidous' entire plan and asked Obi Wan to join him. I had forgotten about that whole moment - and even the hint that Dooku had sensed the stagnation and tyrannical ascent of the Jedi Order was fascinating to me. The implication that he was joining Palpatine to overthrow him and fix the Jedi Order was a plotline I had completely forgotten about.

But instead of building on that. We get 10 minutes of 3PO dorking around on an assembly line. R2D2 flying around Kenobi (who somehow completely forgets about him 21 years later) and the worst romance writing ever written.

Then, Dooku's refusal to sell out Palpatine in Ep. 3 (he totally would have done it once Palpatine ordered him dead), renders the entire meaning behind of Dooku's intentions null and void.

Damn you, George.

Yes, the performance was not CGI, but the overlay was. Golum and Caesar were both great performances by a living, breathing human being, but in no way did they seem "real". But in the context of those movies and the fact that the final screen product is not supposed to be human, it works.

For me, it wasn't a huge bother, but it did take me out of the moment and really affected my appreciation of the scenes he was in as it became something my mind focused on. In that regard, I'd rather he was used much more sparingly. At the same time, I love the Tarkin character and his backstory in the novel. I don't have an answer about what would have been a better solution, and I'll probably not be bothered by it on my next viewing. On first viewing in the theater though, I found it to be very distracting.
My take was similar to yours. There are some shots that I wouldn't know were fake at all. Others, however, didn't look so good. Less, in this case, most definitely would have been more. Similarly, the scene with Leia could have worked just fine simply seeing her from behind.

It is pretty bad, though I thought Phantom Menace was also horrendous.

The quality took a huge leap with Revenge of the Sith.

Even that scene is kinda ruined by having Obi-Wan floating around in a goofy zero G energy prison.

Yeah, that was bad. In even the most minimalist of scenes, you best believe some VFX was getting in there - Lucas just couldn't help himself.

There is nothing wrong with the action sequences in the prequels.

The acting and telling of the story was a piece of shit, though.

Obi Wan and Anakin had a ****ing duel while robot-surfing on lava.

At any time, either of them could have force pushed the other into the lava.

There's plenty wrong with the action sequences.

Yeah, that whole sequence was monumentally stupid. Like the stupid bitch in the horror movies who opens the door when she hears the suspicious scraping sound outside right after screwing her boyfriend thinks that's monumentally stupid.

Who would do any of the crap they did during that fight?

I just saw Rogue One yesterday. WTF?

Why are they jumping around?

New sequel and then a new prequel

Is the next one going to be a sequel or prequel?

Did they think the actors for the sequel would all be dead if they didn't get it done first? (1 turned out be). Should have just made it and held it until after the new prequel then.

Strange

CGI for Leia and Tarkin was weird too. Would have been better off not using him and just have the quick scene with Leia being the only one. CGI Leia looks like the sex robot that the Japanese are making.

The movie was disjointed and strange. It was like they took the original Star Wars script and mixed it all up, trying to pass it off as a new movie.

I dunno

Rogue One was a terrible flick.

It was made to make you buy the books that followed...
