Needs to get stronger/smarter in the run game and develop more pass rush moves. Not a hater by any means. I hope he continues to develop.

pressures are just a small piece of the proverbial pie. Graded negative every game except vs Sandy Eggo (+1.5 IIRC, -4.5 the week before ).

You do realize that play was not Ford's fault at all right? An OT and TE doubled him and there was nothing but grass ahead.

You can't expect any LB to succeed in that situation. It was TE safety's responsibility to come up and make the stop.

There were a handful of people calling him a bust, but many were calling him what he is - at least for now - a one-trick pony.

He has one passrushing "move" and is beyond terrible against the run.

While I don't think he's a bust, I am a bit disappointed that he hasn't seemed to improve much in those two areas in two years. I'm hoping he can improve and actually make some use out of that ridiculous first step.

Ford has displayed a good initial burst off the line, but he still doesn't actually have any real pass rushing moves, nor can he cover or defend the run at all. If he can learn them, he can be a good player, but facing a bunch of backup QBs who hold the ball too long and shittastic RTs isn't going to be a good determinant of his ability.

If you want a cross sports comparison, here are several:

Baseball: Mark Reynolds. He can crush the ball against AAAA pitchers and does nothing else well

Basketball: Danny Green. He can camp the 3 point line and make open shots and that's it.

And let's be honest, if Ford was progressing the way a first round pick should, he wouldn't need Hali and Houston to get injured to force his way into the lineup, he'd be an integral part of the rotation.

They ran at him a lot and he had ONE TACKLE the whole game. ONE, the number that comes right after ZERO!

I'm not hating on Dee Ford but let's not get carried away. Good to great linebackers make run stops, not every time, but enough.

More playing time can only HELP him to improve if he has the talent and good coaching, which I surely think he does.

Gonna be a fun ride.
I'd be scared as crap knowing Houston is on my right and Dee Ford is likely charging at me from behind.

Not very good data points when pulling out selective points in time or games.

Not picking on you, it's just that there is now three or four front page threads stating "Alex Smith best QB from week 6 to week 9", "Charcandrick West best running back in NFL in last 4 weeks after the other team kicks a FG", "Frankie Hammond best punt returner in the NFL during rain in the state of Missouri in December"
I agree 100% with you and Mark Twain about stats. Ford is very good at rushing the passer and has flashed at being good in coverage.

I'm not now, nor have I ever predicted he'd be a bust.

That being said, it's pretty ridiculous for a bunch of people to be laughing at the "CP Braintrust" for calling him a bust (they didn't, but I'm not going to argue about that right now) just because he's produced some pressures against backups and shitty offensive lines as the best healthy OLB on the team.

I and many skeptical people expressed some glaring concerns with Ford when he was drafted, and we brought them up again last season when he looked flat out LOST, even for a rookie, especially one drafted in the first round. Like, I've heard of drafting players for raw potential in the first round, but Ford had probably the slowest start to a career of any Chiefs first rounder since Sylvester ****ing Morris. And in 2015, he continued to show in preseason that he had yet to develop and hone a decent toolbox of abilities to play his position in the NFL. Now that he's starting, it's good to see that he's at least disrupting shit. It's a nice start.

In the immortal words of Han Solo: "Great, kid! Don't get cocky!"

It's pretty ignorant to call Ford anything other than a pure extension of his play at Auburn.

His last year at Auburn, he racked up only 38 tackles, TWELVE of which were sacks.

That's the player you're starting with. A guy who basically needs to learn how to play the sport but has ridiculous potential if/when you do.

I'm giving him a full three years to see how far he's come. Anything else is premature.
