good movie, nothing really new here though in terms of the story though as there's been many movies over years about the same thing and in similar settings (western, industrial age, etc... like that one movie about the oil miner or w/e which was only a few years back)
Also not sure if they did a good enough job about building Leo's character so that we would want to root for him. The only reasons I found was that he keeps finding himself in really shitty situations and that Hardy was especially a piece of shit to him so by virtue of disgust for that character, the audience roots for Leo. The only things that gave merit to his character before the bear attack was that he sort of helped the guys retreat from the attack (although not really moreso than anyone else?) and that they hinted that the other guys liked him despite never showing any comrardery or interaction with him otherwise. Given the situation, Hardy's character was correct in a practical point of view (why risk everyone else for someone who basically has no chance). He just takes it a step too far at the end. promo dvd version was leaked day 1 btw |

The cinematography was the best I've seen in a long time. The sound was fantastic too. Saw the movie in IMAX. You have to see this in the movie theater if only for the cinematography.

They should call this movie "worst month ever."
Beautifully shot. Excellent cinematography. But if you're going to make that kind of a movie, you've got to lighten up a little bit in parts. The entire movie from start to finish was bleak. By the second hour I wanted it to wrap up. There's only so long you can carry that one note. |

I can never understand why Hollywood always has to try and make a true story even 'better' by adding to it... like adding in the vengeance for his son angle
Its a fantastic story by itself, it didnt need fiction added to it |

Yeah, this movie was about as accurate as Memphis Belle, which is to say, hardly at all.
I always thought the most interesting part of Glass's story was the when he laid against a dead tree teeming with maggots, so that they would crawl all over his wounds and eat away the infection. Doing that saved his life as much as anything else. They left that out, and added a bunch of bullshit instead. |
