It's what happens when you don't allow your employees to think.... the machine says this man must leave now!
Heck, the employees probably would've gotten in trouble if they'd deviated from whatever the required plan was. That's probably why they couldn't raise the voucher.

That said, you can't blame the doctor one bit. If he's a decent doctor at all, he's going to make sure he sees his patients the next day. Imagine how ticked you'd be if you'd made an appointment with your doctor 3 months ago and you had to push it back another month or two because of this. Or if you had a boss that wasn't sympathetic to missing work, and you were stuck in this situation.

BUT NOOOOO!!! UNITED HAD TO PROVE WHO WAS THE BOSS!!
$1350 is just the cap that they are forced to reimburse by law. They can voluntarily go over that.

300 miles is a five hour drive if you go 60.

lol, United will now be paying the Doc a few million bucks because they are too stupid to figure out a better way out of a situation which their own policies created.

I agree but seriously to absolutely refuse to get up? Thats kind of a douche move, you are basically saying I am more important than anyone else on this plane.

Maybe he is but why not just comply then go reem some ****ing ass at the counter?

Douche move on both the airline and the asshole passenger IMO.

Not really. The Doctor was saying that the value of him getting back to Louisville that day was more than what United was offering in compensation. Economics.

I don't know if it's been mentioned or not, but I heard on the news earlier this evening that one of the airport security goons that dragged the guy off the plane has been placed on leave.

The problem with that is he doesn't legally get to make that choice. The airline can bump anyone for any reason at any time.

That's just a fact.

Man, this was a colossal screwup by United Airlines. I'll remember it the next time I book a flight, guaranteed, and I'll fine them one airfare.

To clarify, I would still fly them over Frontier Airlines even if I got a beating mid-flight. But this is an unbelievably stupid thing by United Airlines.

United is going to be paying this guy a shitload of money in the end.

United overbooked, had no way to get a crew where it needed to be in the time they needed to be there, tried to bribe passengers to de-board, and when that didn't work they thought a ****ing lottery would be the best way to go to get someone off the plane, and do so forcibly. Then, after getting literally dragged off the plane, he re-boards with a bloody face.

United is going to pay this man, and pay him well. Especially with all the eyewitnesses with smartphones recording every second of it.

It sounds like the reports are saying he was open to leaving, but then refused because he knew he couldn't get back in time for his patients. This actually seems to be a legit case of a guy resisting for the right reasons.

Im glad the guy didn't get up. Because sadly it takes a guy getting ****ed over while genuinely doing the right thing to expose a practice that has dicking over people for years. It's hard to justify how peacefully resisting a terrible rule is considered preferable to complying to a terrible rule. Prior to yesterday, nobody was talking about how many lives the airlines have disrupted all because they valued profits over people.

OK fine, but if you're the airline and you're gonna play that card just so you can put your own employees on the flight, prepare your anus. It's not like United 1. Didn't have plenty of other options and 2. This was a low priority situation (it's not like other people's life were on the line).

There will be consequences for United for sure. I am just saying they were within their legal boundaries.

Or he could have stayed and the airline could have not have been morons about it. It would not have been hard for them to figure out "He's a doctor with patients so he absolutely needs to be on this flight, let's raise the voucher amount and see if someone else will volunteer" or "Let's put our employees on another flight or charter a jet for them" instead of physically abusing him.
