I'd pay him around $8M a year.

Is anyone surprised that Sandy Cheeks doesn't want to pay him? If it were up to that guy, no one on this team would ever get paid except Alex.

Funny story - I have a Dex jersey - took the name off the back. I wear it sometimes on game day. Worked out that Peters has the number now. In fact - I kinda like it better that there is no name on the back. Just a KC jersey # 22.

No, his initial contract was before the rookie cap so it was huge.
Berry is used to making 8-9 million I don't think the Chiefs will or should pay him that much. The only way Berry stays is if he takes a pay cut and usually players don't do that with their original team. Players usually choose to move and take a pay cut with a new team. Ron Parker has already been paid to be Berry replacement.

Don't get me wrong, I like Berry. But what argument can be made that the guy will even sniff the HOF?

Berry is not getting paid $5-6M a year......anywhere. He'll get paid $8-9M a year....if not by us....then someone else.

I wonder if his recent battle put the whole life vs. football vs. money thing into perspective.
Will he go to the highest bidder, or will he be happy just playing in general, for anyone. And would he want to stay here then....?

In today's NFL you have to have good DB's to win. Berry is a top 10 safety who is one of the biggest leaders on the team.
No way do you let him go. With the salary cap moving up, you pay him roughly $8 mil avg/yr. |

Berry is having one of his best seasons. I hope they keep him and he eventually retires a Chief.

I don't think they'll let him go due to fear of backlash from the league, the team, and the community. Berry is a god damn idol to a lot of people and I don't think anyone wants to be responsible for him being unemployed. I could understand if he wasn't any good anymore but he is.

Yes.
Universally liked by the front office, coaches, players, and fans. In spite of his battles away from football, he's been able to come back and is once again showing that he has the skill and ability to become the player so talked about when he was drafted high. His position lends itself to the realistic chance that he will still be able to compete at a very high level even towards the end of another multi-year deal. It's actually pretty reasonable to think his "best" football days could be soon approaching. His cancer and time away came just as he was taking his game to the next level. It's obvious that this year has been a process of him getting reacclimated to the game. I don't think it'd be going too far out on a limb to anticipate that his play next year will be better than this, or that he is hitting the age of diminished physical tools for at the very least 3 or 4 more seasons. The salary cap doesn't look as if it is going to slow down in terms of year to year increases, and unless something completely unexpected pops up, the organization isn't facing any "come to Jesus" situation of a gluttony of high priced FA all in the pipeline at once and forcing a lot of tough choices of which talent to let walk. On the flipside, there's not been a peep about Eric or his reps pushing for some big money extension. Nor has there been chatter about some list of teams eager to court him While he's obviously more than a quality player, it remains to be seen that getting him resigned is going to come down to a massive amount committed to him on a yearly basis. A far cry from some Houston 2.0 scenario.
