Interesting. Did Panda Express just reach the Midwest in the past few years?
Back when I lived in West Hollywood (and was poor as dirt), there was a Panda Express inside the Pavillion's grocery store a block from my apartment. Back in the mid-90's, it was only $4.25 for a 2 item meal, which included either fried rice or chow mein. I used to "treat myself" on Friday's and it was always good. But after I moved from that location, I rarely ate Panda after that. Recently, a Panda Express opened about a 1/2 mile from my home. It's twice as expensive as it used to be but they have a much larger selection. It's always busy, so the food is always fresh. My kids like it quite a bit and I still enjoy their black pepper chicken, mushroom chicken and especially their string bean chicken. It's not my first choice for Chinese but I can't recall ever having a bad experience or dish. But there's always a line (and poor parking) so it can be a hassle at times but other than that, it's fine. It's certainly better than Jack in the Box or McDonald's or Subway, which are the other nearby fast food restaurants. There's a Chipotle that's fairly close but parking is a disaster. |

Panda Express has been around KC since the early 2000's. I had a friend that was a manager at the Bannister Mall location.

I dont like how when I order kung pao they warn me about 'its our hottest dish and comes with peanuts' like I'm some southern California soccer mom. Shit isnt hot at all, and if I was allergic to peanuts, I wouldn't order kung pao chicken.. you know, because peanuts. still tasty~ |

It really hurts my soul that Panda Express started using corn in their fried rice instead of eggs.

That's on you. I'm no Panda Express fan, but I've never had an internal issue with it.

There aren't many here. One just opened in Maple Grove, MN
Always has it at MOA. And Valley Fair. I like it. Very good. Tough competition for Leanne Chin. (MN local-not sure of other places)

It's alright. If you're expecting anything fantastic out of a fast food chinese place then that's on you. I recently found a ****ing boss chinese spot for carry out in the Northland, so any time I feel a hankering for the stuff I'll go there. But before that, Panda Express would work out fine.
If your options are Panda or HyVee for $7 a pop, I'd go Panda every time. |
