Which state would you want to live in?

This poll is only for the 50 states. Vbulletin forums at this level can only do 50 choices. So no international choices or Gaz option.

You determine the reason. Whatever reason, its your reason.

You want to live at the beach? Desert? Mountains? whatever.

You want to live there for the climate, job market, culture etc.

Live there when you no have kids, when your retired etc.

It's your call and vote.

Poll forthcoming

Do I have any control over where I end up in said state? I'd love to live in NY's five boroughs [preferably Manhattan], but would probably prefer Alaska or Idaho to Buffalo, NY.

Do I have any control/sway over who joins me. ie, does moving somewhere remote demand loved ones or close friends remain behind, or do I get a 'who's with me' opportunity?

In all, the two things that keep me from saying Manhattan, full stop, is;

Cars, and
a space to wield power tools, woodworking, metal working, welding, motor and electronics repair/fabrication, all are such a source of relaxation.
You get a closet's worth of space in Manhattan for the price of a regular mortgage on a 3 bedroom home. Dirty city, aggressive and inconsiderate inhabitants.

I like having winters and actual changes of season. So Hawaii, Florida, Arizona, and all those places can suck it.

New Hampshire seems nice, but I know next to nothing about it.

In terms of being close to family and friends in a nice city where my wife and I both love our current jobs, it's hard to top for me what I have right now living in Madison, WI. Arbitrarily picking a different state to live in even as just a hypothetical question is pretty hard to narrow down. I really don't care, honestly.

I'll just go with New Hampshire as a "seems nice" pick.

Bunch of assumptions there on minor social "left wing" ideas. You're wrong about Mass though. They've got Romney care and they ain't fiscally conservative just because some fiscal conservatives live there. I grew up there and left there. More people have left there in the past decade than ever too. Many went to southern NH.

I don't care for an income tax either.

Never cared much for bible thumpers, Leongs Tea House is long gone, Fassnight Park is where Jim Jones goes trolling for dates, and MSU just ain't the same as it was in my youth when it was SMS.
I've tried the chemical road to bliss but kept losing my way.

I really liked Madison WI when I worked there last May...as well as the surrounding areas getting to it from Milwaukee. It's a pretty city on those two lakes and very manageable to get around.

I wouldn't mind living in some different states/cities for a year at a time.

I'd pick the North Carolina Coast, inland in the foothills and mountains. Then outside Philly, in Maryland near the Coast, Maine, Oregon, Washington, Northern Cal, Colorado, Montana, Arizona and especially Alaska. I'd pick those states. Then parts of Europe, Italy, France, Austria, Norway and England.

Not Texas—way too flat but perhaps Austin and Hill Country but only for 6 months.

I've never had a desire to go to either of those states. What's there?
