Arrowhead Pride says Bray not likely to make the roster

http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2015/7...-chiefs-roster

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs first full squad training camp practice will be on August 1 but quarterbacks, rookies and injured players will be arriving on a few days earlier on July 28. That includes Tyler Bray, who is both a quarterback and an injured player.

Bray tore his ACL sometime last December or January which puts his availability for training camp in question. The timeline of eight months recovery seems to point to a possibility that Bray, who mostly worked out on his own this offseason, could be physically ready for camp. He will be at camp but it's not clear yet whether he'll be participating.

Even if Bray is physically ready, it's really hard envisioning a scenario where he makes the team, assuming the Chiefs keep only three quarterbacks. Alex Smith isn't going anywhere, Chase Daniel is the established No. 2 and the Chiefs have more invested in Aaron Murray at this point. Perhaps an injury could change that but Bray has zero NFL experience so he's still very much the project .

Andy Reid was asked in May about Bray participating in OTAs and he said, "We'll see on that." That statement doesn't exactly exude confidence.

Bray is entering the final year of his contract so the 'ol stash him on IR move wouldn't really help the Chiefs. Barring injury the only scenario I can see where he's on the roster is if the Chiefs keep four quarterbacks.

C'mon man.

His first pass of the game was a gimme pick 6 that was dropped and it's not like he was his level of play was outstanding.

He's solid for a game or 3...but is limited.

I was hoping we would have enough confidence in Murray to trade Daniel this offseason and have Bray as the 3.

"Solid for a game or three" is exactly the job description of a veteran backup QB.

I'm not singling you out, but it just has never ceased to amaze me how much confidence people have had in an undrafted free agent like Bray. He's had three years to put it together and reportedly still hasn't been able to do so.

Bray will never amount to anything. The man has yet to take a practice snap during regular season and hosed himself by tearing his ACL and rehabbing elsewhere.

As for Murray, his best bet is to continue running the scout team, sit in meetings and continue to learn the offense. He definitely has talent and would have been drafted much higher if not for the injury (and his height, which is silly given Brees and Wilson's success).

I don't know if Murray will ever be a starter but being a long term backup isn't a bad gig.

Yep. While I think there would be teams that would give him a chance as a starter (Jets, Buffalo, Houston, Cleveland, etc.), it seems as if his career trajectory is that of a long term backup QB, which as I just mentioned, isn't a bad gig if you can get it.

I don't think he can do that nearly as well as people think. He has a limited game. Only 2 starts. No idea how he'll react once defenses start to scheme for him but the 2nd half of last year's SD game looked really, really ugly.

There are lots of veterans out there with a ton of experience. Hasselbeck, Flynn, Matt Moore, Sanchez, Stanton, Tarvaris Jackson, Glennon, Schaub, Cousins, Austin Davis. The backup QB situation could be a lot worse but at $5M, you don't want the guy to be outside of the top 10.
