Interesting day at NFL officiating clinic. Biggest point of emphasis for 2014..Illegal contact and defensive holding. More offense!

NFL says they are offsetting this emphasis with an emphasis on calling offensive pass interference. Not an even trade in my opinion.

The NFL looked at what the NBA did to open up offense and is copying.

Sometimes it is needed (NHL when they got rid of the two line pass rule, lowering the mound in baseball) other times it is not (the goalie trapezoid)

i heard somewhere where, Carroll told them to bump and be disruptive as much as possible that the ref's wont call it all the time. Im guessing this is why we are see'ing this.

Meh. Manning gets the same calls Brady and Brees get.

The big difference with Manning is that you simply cannot even brush against his WR's. Hell, covering them too closely is often enough to draw a flag.

I know in 2004-2006 no QB had more 3rd down conversions on penalties than Manning. I didn't pay any attention after that, but from what I've seen those particular manning rules are still in place.

In 2013, the Chiefs had a higher percentage of 3rd down pass play conversions from penalties than the Broncos did.

I'm not surprised.

Defenses have adapted. Most good defenses have countered the rules by simply interfering on every single play, knowing the refs won't call it 2 or 3 times in a row. Last two SB champions led the league in pass interference.
