Cards vs. Royals weekend series

Question for the Royals fans. You want to keep the discussion in your daily game threads or do you just want to keep us Cardinal fans out of "your" threads?

or start a shared thread?

This is looking like the best time in our history that both of our teams have been playing at this high of a level when we played each other.

We went to the NCLS last year and you went to the WS but we were playing like shit when we played. This year we have the best record in baseball and you guys are just one game behind that record, correct?

Bring it on. May the best team win.

I get why some do it... But I do like to make fun of people who grow up in one place but root for a bunch of teams they have no ties to because they're good.

My favorite example is one of my former colleagues at Sporting News. Chad was a graphics guy for the book business, and was a nice enough (if kind of simple) fellow... I didn't mind him until I talked to him about sports beyond baseball. Then the hatred started.

Chad was from West county St. Louis. He grew up a diehard Cardinals fan. He went to KU because he "loved" college basketball and loved them because of how good they were. His NFL team was the Broncos.

He was a RED WINGS fan in hockey (and if you've lived in St. Louis, especially during the 90s or 2000s, you know this is a BIG thing), though he "got into" the Avalanche when he was in college at KU (This was during the Forsberg/Sakic era, shocker, right?)

In basketball, he was a huge fan of the Chicago Bulls (though his interest in the NBA had wanted, according to him, since around 2000 when "the game changed" - aka, Jordan retired and the Bulls stopped being awesome).

He also had a secondary baseball team: The New York Yankees.

To top all of this off, Chad was an avid gun nut before being a gun nut became a thing. He talked any chance he could about his "drop gun." He had a Desert Eagle in his truck at all times. And he listened to conservative talk radio, full blast, every day in the office.

I swear this was a real person. Looking back at it now, it's hard to believe he was. But when I think of "douchy T-shirt fan" ... his face is what springs to mind.

And he's a Cardinals fan. Sorry to the guys around here for that (you all are awesome, the most awesome segment of your fanbase I've encountered on the interwebs).
sounds like he'll be a Cardinals fan right up until the Cardinals go on a 2 or 3 year bad stretch ... then he'll have been a 'insert best team' fan for years!

I have friends like Chad, too. I ****ing hate those pricks. It's why I hate guys like Tom Brady so much, and Patriots fans so much. There wasn't a god damn such thing as a Patriots fan before Tom Brady. Now they are EVERYWHERE.

Been a cubs and royals fan pretty much all my life. Grew up in KC and spent a lot of time watching WGN sports. Hoping for a series sweep this weekend to even out the royals sweeping wrigley next weekend.

I don't get the 'new gear' fan slam. It's pretty lame, really.
No way. Every piece of Cards gear is authentic. Right own to the lint from Enos Slaughter's mad dash taint that gets worn under the nose.

You probably already have your spots, but this is at Toon's, a Chiefs/Jayhawks bar around Wrigley.

Have you lived in the state of Missouri within the past 30 years?

The Royals are Missouri's equivalent to the Rams. The Royals will never, ever, ever have a larger drawing in the state of MO than the Cardinals. Just like the Rams will never, ever, ever have a larger following than the Chiefs in MO. It just won't happen.
