I don't ski, but I've been to Copper a couple of times for runs. It's not really a city, more of a big bunch of developments near ski lifts. I think the non-skiing stuff (restaurants, etc.) are pretty cool, and it's not far from Frisco and Breckenridge, too.
I don't think you can really end up too far from the lifts anywhere in Copper, but DaFace or others will likely know a lot more than me.

I've never stayed there, but as far as I know Rain Man is right - there's really not any lodging at Copper that ISN'T pretty much on-mountain. I think there are some condos there that technically might be a long walk to get to the lifts, but they have shuttles all over the place I believe.

Never stayed there, but Copper was always my favorite Summit County resort.
