I'm Otter - AMA

Hi my screen name is Otter. I'm doing a lot of travelling this month and I'm currently sitting in a motel room sipping on a scotch . In keeping with diphg9 AMA thread requests I'm open for questions. I'll start off with a couple tidbits about myself that I can think of to get things rolling:
  • born in eastern PA in a small coal mining town which county has roughly 5x the national cirrhosis related deaths over anywhere in the US last I checked
  • never met a black person until junior year in high school but dated quite a few black girls in college
  • served as an altar boy in the Catholic Church for 3 months before getting kicked off the team
  • kicked out of 2 high schools for "misconduct"
  • read my last rights at age 8 in front of my crying mother
  • state championship wrestler in PA at 138lbs
  • earned two degrees in EE and CS plus too many certs to mention
  • currently live in Duragno, CO after numerous moves on the east coast - a planeteer who shall remain nameless introduced me to real mountains back in 2001ish and I never looked back
  • kicked the shit out of 2 men twice my size at the same time outside a dive bar in college because they thought I wasn't going to defend myself
  • i'm married, 1/3 owner in successful LLC, and proud owner of the coolest boxer dog ever born
  • will ignore any political questions; i'm nor republican or democrat if you want to draw lines and think they're both equally full of shit
Let's see how it goes if at all..Let 'er rip. I'll be as honest as possible w/o revealing any personal info.

Somewhere out on the highway that goes west out of downtown Durango, there's a gas station, I believe it was a Sinclair, that was all gated off and had danger signs with skulls and crossbones and something about toxic waste. What's that all about?

I don't know about that, the place was way creepy looking. Plus it was late in the day and we wanted to get to Durango and grab dinner and get back to our room. Would've been nice to have had the camera ready and got a pic or at least taken note of where exactly it was, I looked for the place on Google Earth that night and couldn't find it.

Right on.

So if an underground fuel tank leaks the EPA shows up and makes you dig it out until you get to an acceptable PPM of whatever they look for. Needless to say it is prohibitively expensive. There is a gas station in town that is unsalable. Thank god because the taco truck rents it and I love me some taco truck. There is another one that Dad tells me used to be a filling station and it is just an empty lot with some sort of mitigation system on it. Then south of town there is an old refinery that operated before anybody gave a **** about what you did with the byproduct. It’s been defunct since the 70s and looks creepy as **** too.

Bottom line is if you make a mess it quickly becomes prohibitively expensive to clean it up. Thus there are a lot of abandoned shit out there.

I'm pretty sure that's where they ship all of the Bronco's AIDS to. Their own private burial ground. For all of the AIDS they've got.

If God showed up in your living room one day and said "Otter, I am proud of you. I will allow you to ask me one question and whatever it is I will tell you the truth and do so in a way you can fully comprehend the answer."

What would you ask?...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

It was getting late last night so I didn't dig into it much more but it sounds like the owner is some kind of nut. Talking about benzene and suing the government. Didn't make a lot of sense.
