Saw Dontari Poe at Wal-Mart last night

Shopping right next to me in the bread aisle. When I got home my wife asked why I didn't request a photo/selfie with him. I said I'm too old for that, besides public figures deserve privacy. She disagreed, saying they like attention.

CP, settle that argument for us.

Van Halen were total dicks. 30+ bags and a $5 tip. Assholes.
Back in the early 00s, we would catch NFL sunday or MNF at 'The Boats' [the casinos in St. Charles]. Very often there would be a good contingent of Rams players watching as well if they weren't playing that day.

Never treated them gushingly, and they seemed cool with hanging out watching the games.

Remind me of when Lew, Why Not? and I met for a WS game. We were at Alice Cooperstown and Coheed and Cambria was there with their families. Drummer came and introduced himself to us. Said he played in a band we probably hadn't heard of. LOL. We met them, bought them a round of drinks. Talked throughout the game. Mets won. Server charged us like $23 extra to serve that many drinks.

Seen plenty in Hollywood/LA. I just act like they are normal people hanging at the place I am hanging at. My GF does concert photography and reviews so we meet a lot of players too. In that case, we just treat them professionally.

If a celebrity is approached by a kid, who obviously looks up to that celebrity as a role model then I think that they should make the kid's day by getting a picture with them.

If it's anyone that has hit puberty, then no, respect the celebs privacy. They're just people.

I somehow seem to run into Will Shields about once a year. Never asked for a photo or autograph, but I've said hello a few times and commented on the Chiefs or Nebraska. Once was shortly after his HOF induction and he seemed to appreciate the congratulations. He starting telling me how he was so busy he's looking forward to going back when he's not the center of attention. I've seen other people chat him up and he seemed really patient and friendly with everyone.

I would not know most of the players unless they had their jerseys on.

I worked in the mobile department at Best buy in Tiffany Springs and sold Dontari Poe a Sonos subwoofer and soundbar. I didn't notice him until he had questions and I was the closest guy. I don't want to bother athletes, but he was really nice. Alcides Escobar came by one time and some of our employees were all over him, I think it shows a lack of dignity personally.

I might have said hello or congratulations and left the man alone.

Have you ever talked with a player or former player over dinner or a beer?
I have, and they talk about it the same way you might after a bad day at work.
That was one of the first things I noticed, they didn't say "I had practice today" it's "today at work xyz"

You did the right thing, personally I think the only time a celebrity should be accessible is when they're representing their work in any fashion.

Back in the late 1980's I met a lot of sports celebs and coaches doing video work for a national religious organization. Met Tom Osborn, Tom Landry, Mike Singleterry, bunch of others. Nicest and funniest guy was an NBA referee named Ed Rush. He was a hoot and had a lot of great NBA stories.
