I would seriously consider the auto train. The travel time is so much more enjoyable...
http://www.amtrak.com/auto-train EDIT: Oh yeah, the trip only takes about 18 hours. Leave in the afternoon, arrive in the morning the next day. Unless you're on a tight budget, the auto train is a great option to get the most out of your travel time. (I've gotten sick of road trips over the years so am probably biased though.)

If you are going in summer you need to find water. Both myrtle and Orlando will be full of tourists. Both are great for golf but coming that far you have to see the ocean. Give Jacksonville and st augustine a look. Hit Daytona on the way to cape Canaveral and Orlando.

Orlando- disney land sucks ass-hot, crowded, expensive and the rides suck. Unless you want to poney up some big bucks and pay for one of their resorts. Sea world is pretty cool-expensive and good for a half day of fun. Universal Studio-rocked-kinda pricey for a family, but the rides are worth the long ass lines-unlike disney land. Carolina- camp on the beach at Pirate land camp sites or one of the other along the coast. They have pools and slides and you wake up with the sound of the beach every morning. Its not hot becasue the ocean breeze keeps it nice. Lots of history- Kitty Hawk, Bath Town, beautiful beaches and tourist stuff to keep you busy. People are much nicer, things are much cheaper and you can conect with nature and really relax- and not spend you time in hot lines trying to entertain your kids. If you are driving- make sure to cut through the Smokey mountains in Tenn. Great place to camp, walk trails and explore. On the way back head north up through Virginia and see all the historic sites- great amusement parks there as well that are better than disney land and half the price. Good luck!! |

Ok GURU I am a somewhat expert on Myrtle Beach since I lived there a while as a kid and we go there often.
First of all bring money and alot of it... You will pay a 12% sales tax on almost everything at Myrtle Beach including your room. The place is awesome for kids but remember it gets very crowded in the evening and traffic is aggravating, I suggest staying on the South End and driving south to Murrells Inlet for good seafood. Remember, the same seafood you get wherever you are is probably the same seafood you get in Myrtle Beach ... The only difference is it's much higher in MB than where you live... If you have any questions in particular, I will try to help, we are planning a trip soon in the RV to Ocean Lakes campground for the first time. |

This. Much closer than any of the other destinations you're talking about, I believe. Stay anywhere on 30A. If you want to do water parks and all of that kind of crap, drive into Destin for the day (though we avoid Destin like the ****ing plague when we are down there).

Ahh the memories.... I worked for this one restaurant that had the best baked potatos ever, Their secret was they wrapped the taters in aluminum foil like everyone but instead of baking them, they put those wrapped taters in the deep fryer to cook.... Damn they were good. Also, stay away from the buffets... Total ripoffs |
