Jamaal Charles vs Kareem Hunt

It's crazy to think that Kareem is 233 yards from scrimmage away from tying Jamaals best season. Kareem is at 1747 and Jamaal is at 1980. Kareem won't get it, but he's had a damn good season

Well hardly anyone in NFL history did. If Kareem had that he would have been drafted well ahead of where we got him.

It's just a different expectation with him. Every time he touches the ball and has just a little space I'm expecting ten yards.

Kareem is just an absolute wrecking ball of a runner. Clearly doesn't have the speed Jamaal did. Heck, not many RBs do. Jamaal was a tough runner himself, though.

Hunt is like a good defensive boxer, he might get hit, but mostly they are just glancing blows.

Pretty much.

I'd compare Hunt more to a Tomlinson/Curtis Martin/E. Smith type. He can be super productive but he needs the touches. Toughness, willpower, and great vision.

Charles is more the Barry Sanders type that you might bottle up for a while but that 70 yard TD is possible on any given play. More physically gifted but less consistently productive.

The areas that favor Hunt are excellent protection of the football and very rarely taking negative yards.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Emmit Smith type is an excellent comparison - Virtually the same size, Very tough runner, same build and not break-away speed, but fast enough.

Hard to compare. First of all this is Hunts first season. I want to see how he does over 5-years before making a fair comparison. Also Smitty is playing way better than he ever did when Jamaal was here. It'd be scary to think what Jamaal

As of right now overall I think they are pretty even. Both healthy I'm taking Jamaal but he gets hurt so often, fumbles more and at the worst times it is hard for me to say I'd take Jamaal over Hunt. I think because of Hunts build he will have a longer and less injured career but when healthy Jamaal is one of the best RBs of all-time and his ypc prove that. Problem is, he can't stay healthy.

Usually the biggest jump a player makes is from year 1 to year 2.

After year 1 you know the game and you can concentrate more on improving your body in the offseason instead of learning the offense and what it means to be an NFL player.

Hunt's balance is extraordinary. He can take a hit, keep balanced on that thick base and low center of gravity, and keep on running. Strong runner that goes down only when tackled and not by "woo hits."

Very good point. We'll see how he does next season. Like I said it is hard to compare a rookie RB to a veteran like Jamaal Charles. Time will tell.

Jamaal was special though. Scary to think what this offense would look like w a prime Jamaal playing with the current Smitty.

Scary to think what we'll do next year if both Hunt and Ware are healthy...

And what year did Jamaal complete that feat? Not his first year I bet.

I would venture to guess that Kareem's are the best first year stats of any other RB for the Chiefs.

Here are Hunt's rookie numbers (with possibly 1 game to play.)
https://www.pro-football-reference.c...H/HuntKa00.htm

Here are a few all time great's rookie numbers.

E. Smith
https://www.pro-football-reference.c...S/SmitEm00.htm

C. Martin
https://www.pro-football-reference.c...M/MartCu00.htm

M. Allen
https://www.pro-football-reference.c...A/AlleMa00.htm

Jim Brown
https://www.pro-football-reference.c...B/BrowJi00.htm

M. Faulk
https://www.pro-football-reference.c...F/FaulMa00.htm

Hunt had over 1,700 total yards (so far) his rookie year.

Almost all of these players had more yards 2nd year and very few of them had 1,700 total (rushing/rec.)

Charles, in his prime, was one of the best natural RBs I've ever seen. Hunt is great but he's not going to have the highest YPC in the history of the sport.

He's definitely better than the 31 year old version with two knee surgeries...

The KC rookie record is misleading...Charles didn't play much his first season.
