MMQB: Dorsey, Browns rumored to be drafting Josh Allen at #1

From https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/04/01/jo...mqb-peter-king :

Quote:
FOD (Friend of Dorsey) thinks Browns will go Allen-Saquon at 1 and 4. What would an April MMQB be without another draft rumor?! This friend of Cleveland GM John Dorsey believes he’ll go Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen over Sam Darnold with the first overall pick, keep the fourth pick, and take Penn State running back Saquon Barkley. “I would be surprised if he traded down,” FOD told me. “This would be his chance to take his two offensive cornerstones for the next eight or 10 years.” The most interesting thing there? That FOD thinks Dorsey will not trade. I think that’s great. Cleveland’s been very good at trading and stockpiling, and not very good at drafting, in the last few years. I hope Dorsey’s more about the (relatively) sure things instead of Cleveland leading the league in draft picks.
For what it’s worth...

Dorsey isn't going to pass on the "higher upside" prospect. He'll take Barkley because it gives him a safe BPA prospect to quiet the naysayers.

I don't understand the Josh Allen hype. Dude had a 54% completion rating in college. It does not get easier in the pros.

Guess what, if you redrafted that draft right now today, Eric Fisher is still a top 5 pick and the first OT taken.

Barkley is the safest choice at 1.1. Then, he can take the remaining QB at 1.4. Avoids most criticism and hugest the positions he needs covered.

The problem is they can't do that if they don't like Baker Mayfield and honestly Mayfield does not strike me as a Dorsey prospect.

The last quarterback I remember being drafted highly despite having completion percentage concerns was Jake Locker...

Josh Allen probably has better measureables than Locker does however it is a solid comparison.

But now days with all of the easy throws and air raid type of systems you could easily argue that his percentage isn't inflated because of the system he's from etc etc.

Like Baker Mayfield has a really inflated completion percentage because he made a ton of easy throws.

Unfortunately they can't. They can't sit back and just take whatever is left. Everyone knows that QBs are more than likely going at #2 and #3. Take the QB you want at #1 and then take Barkley at #4 if he's still there.

Why take Barkley at 4 when you could have Sony Michel at 33?

I'd take a QB at 1, CHubb at 4 and get a RB later.

While I agree, Cleveland has a PR problem.

They passed on Wentz and Goff in 2016. Took Myles Garrett last year, and Trubisky, Mahomes, and Watson look to be legit. As stupid as it seem, I think Cleveland has to take a QB #1 overall and they better get it right. Dorsey was smart to bring in a veteran QB, but the world will expode if they pass on the top QBs in the draft yet again.

Everyone views Barkley as the best prospect is the problem, although rationally speaking they should take Chubb if they can get him.

Then you get your franchise QB, have 2 bookend rushers and can still get a RB.

I dont either. With him it seems to be all about measurables. He was awful vs the few mediocre power 5 schools he played. I think hes the riskiest QB prospect of the lot.

Let's also remember he's also the only prospect that is legit playing for a crappy team that isn't full of NFL prospect.
