About Justin Houston..

Does anyone else think he has been playing pretty lazily early in games this year? Perhaps it has been a scheme thing, perhaps today he was still feeling some illness.. but I typically watch him on 75+% of the snaps and its like he is waiting until the 4th quarter to 'flip the switch'. He shuts down the run for 4 quarters, I am referring only to his pass rush.

He either gets dropped into coverage, or he will rush and give up on it if he doesn't win immediately. Then, the 4th quarter hits and we see the dominant, relentless Justin Houston that he used to be on every down.

Hopefully its just some sort of schematic thing going on. I'm glad he is still having a huge impact nonetheless with 4 sacks thus far, but I can't help but wonder if he is holding back effort. Lets hope that changes because the defense is damn good when he is rolling...

I agree with the conundrum that Houston is good at everything, so in normal downs it makes sense to switch up his roles. However, in a pass rushing situation, it seems like a good idea to have him rush. He's far and away the team's best pass rusher right now.

That 22-sack season he was great but he's not the same pass-rusher anymore. Maybe offenseive lineman have caught on to his moves or something. He's good but he's no prime Hali or DT.

He's a great overall LB. He can do it all which is his biggest strength. Only rushing him 50% of the time makes it hard for offenses to figure out what he is doing play-to-play and decide how much attention to give him when blocking. Then when we do rush him we can avoid double-teams at times. Doing that for certain opponents is fine with me. I'm sure Sutton has his reasons.

Justin Houston covering TEs or a WR though cannot happen unless we are going to get the QB QUICK! I'll give you that. He's got to be in zone.
Idiot.

I don't know dude. He's still elite rushing the passer and it shows when I review his rush snaps, as I rewatch each game.

Just consider the numbers alone, 4 sacks and he hasn't even rushed half of the time. That's pretty crazy. Even in 2014, while I'm sure he rushed more than he has so far this year, he wasn't going all of the time.

To me he can still be the best in the league rushing the passer, I just don't know if he's going to get the opportunities to show it consistently. That's fine if the defense is playing lights out, but we really haven't been so far in terms of yardage allowed.

About Justin Houston..

Averages a sack a game over the span of several years- “isn’t as good as people make him out to be”

It's a good question but only Sutton can really answer. I'm only speculating... Logically what I would say is I think Sutton likes to try and confuse certain QBs and that is why he is doing it because we all know J Houston is clearly better pass rusher than he is out in coverage although he can do both.

He's a very good pass rusher I simply don't think he is on a prime Hali or DT's level like a lot of posters like to imply he is... That's all.

On pace for 16 sacks in a season from the strong side position while only rushing the passer half the time.

"Isn't very good at rushing the passer as ppl (sic) make him out to be."

This is the kind of wisdom you can only get if you live within 150 miles of NYC, guys. Just back the **** off and let PAChiefsguy work his magic.

Hali was good, but Houston is a great player. Still is. he's asked to cover alot, he doesnt rush every down. The Defense aLOT of the times, drops 8 and rushes 3. Then at times 1, with Ford or Zombo rushing. Why Houston doesnt rush more, i dunno, but he's allso great against the run and good at covering.
