Just filed ours and am relieved to be getting a whopping $23 back. Somehow had it figured about right this year, that's the closest to even I can recall.

I can't believe individuals pay companies to do their shit for them. I've been doing my own taxes since 1987.

I get your point, and in some cases you're right, but when you have investments (outside of the corporate 401k plan), multiple properties, some rentals, kids in college, AND you're trying to **** Obama's whore minions out of stealing most of your coin, you hire a pro. And it's not just the trip to Wal-Mart's H&R Block curtained-off area, for some it's a financial advisory to help them with their coin as they're busy making more of it. |

Oh no, I get that the multi-layered tax return needs professional guidance. I'm taking about paying J-H or H and R over $100.00 to file a ****ing EZ or 1040 with no itemization whatsoever.

I need to get better at trying to get close to break even. We have both claimed 0 the past two years and are getting 4-5k back on refund. We should probably switch to claiming 1 on our W4s for this year and see what happens.

On the whole you'd be surprised how completely oblivious to anything that has any tax implications some people are. I've had clients come in and listened to my boss repeat the same shit over and over in the simplest least common denominator way possible and people just can't ****ing get it. One gal had a kid move out and lost a exemption. My boss couldn't get it through the gals skull that if you're not supporting a kid you refund goes down. So finally she thinks she gets it and then tells her she owes a TINY amount on the state. WHAT? WHY? HOW? Another gal in her like 30s cashed out her IRA and then wondered why on earth her taxes would be high. Another dude got busy and just hasn't filed a damn thing in 3 years. Another one didn't bother to mention he did construction on the side and then shows up with 1099s after the return was in. Basic taxation practices are lost on a huge number of people. And HR blocks target market are the EITC crowd. Those dollars are so huge it doesn't matter what they charge. And they know it. Do the highest income one first. I'd bet you'll be underwithheld if you do them both. |

I saw a couple poor souls at Jackson Hewitt in Walmart
I felt very sad for them. They probably pay 300 for someone to fill out the same forms they could fill out and file for half the price |
