I agonized over this one. Really tough.

#1 - John Alt. John was one of the few pre-Martyball guys who stayed and thrived in Martyball. He was a rock of consistency for us, and was a giant. You liked seeing him in our huddle. I can't put a finger on why he's #1 for me, but he is.

#2 - Jack Rudnay. I mentioned this before, but I think he may have been the last Super Bowl Chief on the roster, and I actually saw him play as an adult. He was there for my entire childhood and was a very good player.

#3 - Will Shields. 14 years, a dozen pro bowls, never missed a game, and when our left tackle went down one year he moved over from right guard. Right guard to left tackle - how unprecedented is that? Amazing.

It destroys me to not vote for Willie Roaf. I loved Willie Roaf. I was a big fan of him when he was a Saint and was thrilled when he came to KC. I probably should have voted for him, but it was really hard to knock one of the above guys off the list.

Roaf, Shields, and Wiegmann for me. Wiegmann always impressed me with having built a solid career even though he was undersized for a center.

Roaf wasn't here nearly as long as some of the other outstanding candidates. While I loved Roaf, there were more deserving linemen.

Roaf ended Trent Green's career by jetting on the team after FA and the draft, leaving them scrambling to fill the LT whole. It was Jordan Black getting beaten like a rented mule that led to the shot that Geathers put on Green.

Roaf's short time on the team and shitty departure puts John Alt ahead of him on my list.

Shields, Waters, Alt.

Shields, Alt and Rudnay. This was a hard one for me as I was torn between Grunhard, Waters, Szott and Hill. Sorry loves Roaf but he was borrowed for a short time.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).
