Wes Craven passes away at 76
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...ro-dies-818806
Wes Craven, the famed writer-director known for the Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream movies, died Sunday after a battle with brain cancer. He was 76. Craven, whose iconic Freddy Krueger character horrified viewers, died at his home in Los Angeles, his family announced. Craven claimed to have gotten the idea for Elm Street when living next to a cemetery on a street of that name when growing up in the suburbs of Cleveland. His five Nightmare on Elm Street films were released from 1984-89. Similarly, Craven's Scream series was a box-office sensation. In those scare-'em-ups, he spoofed the teen horror genre. The movies frequently referenced other horror movies. Deadly Friend was one of my favorite movies. |

DAMN....didnt really think of him as being that old.
Watched a documentary on netflix recently (I think it was "Nightmares in Red, White, and Blue"....about the horror genre in american cinema).......he had quite a few parts in it, and was really interesting. RIP.

No coincidence that the Elm Street films he was associated with 1, 3, and New Nightmare are the most serious, and strongest films of the series.
Its a shame the rest of the films in the series were such shit, and while I don't begrudge Robert Englund for filling his pockets and making his living by exploiting the only role he ever gained any recognition for, its a shame that he was so instrumental in turning Freddy Krueger into such a ****ing joke. I mean, you watch the original Nightmare and see what a great villain he was in that, and then watch that shit where he's a boss in a videogame....its just terrible. As mentioned before, Deadly Friend is one badass film. When that bitch from Goonies gets her head full on exploded with a basketball, Ill never forget that shit. I was like 9 when I saw that.

Scream didn't shape my childhood certainly, but I liked the first one growing up. They weren't great but I enjoyed the first one. Then they got worse after that.

I'm talking about Nightmare on Elm street, any kid growing up in the 80's can attest to that.
