OL Draft Prospects

Some of the guys I'm starting to like are:

Laken Tomlinson dude has been killing it at the Senior bowl. Would fix a lot of problems for the Chiefs.

Donovan Smith has been very solid on both side tackle spots.

La'el Collins is a beast, but he's gonna go mid 1st round. I don't think the Chiefs will pull the trigger on OL that early.

Cameron Erving is interesting from the stand point of how versatile he might be.

Ali Marpet might be a good pick at center.

Yes, I'm talking mostly Senior bowl guys right now.

So what happens if they go after a FA....lose out and then don't draft one because Allen will be healthy and they'll have Kush, Fulton, Stephenson and LDT to evaluate?

A friend of mine, who spends way too much time on the draft, posted this on another board. Thought it was worth posting here:

OT- Mediocre group this year. Lot of future RTs, or guys that kick inside. Scherff is so mature and pro-ready. Love the attitude. A man, not a child in a big body. Collins is a terrific player. Matured a ton over the years. Flowers is so massive. He gets his hands on you, and you are done. Peat is another tree that is raw, but has some upside at the next level. Haverstein was the second best OT at the Senior Bowl (after Collins). Good player in rush and pass. Note: TJ Clemmings of Pitt is the most athletic of the group, but fared so badly at the Senior Bowl that he flat out scares me. At times, he looked like the worst OT on the field.
1. Brandon Scherff
2. La'El Collins
3. Ereck Flowers
4. Andrus Peat-
5. Rob Haverstein

OG- My favorite position to evaluate each year. I love the big uglies. Good group this year. AJ Cann is a smooth athlete for the position, a technician. Not a mauler, but can get to the second level quickly. Ready for the NFL. Can't believe John Miller is being overlooked in the draft process. Best player by a mile at the Shrine Game, and is terrific at sinking his hips when necessary to push rushers outside. A knee-bender. Favorite value player in the draft. Tomlinson was the best guard at the Senior Bowl. Squarely-shaped stud that moves pretty well, and can drive you back. Ogbueghi coming off ACL. Kicking inside for me at the next level. Mason knows how to run block. That is all they did at GT.
1. AJ Cann
2. John Miller
3. Laken Tomlinson
4. Cedric Ogbueghi
5. Shaq Mason

C- A really weak group after the first three prospects. Erving moved inside from tackle, and showed he is ready to play center at a high level in the NFL. Grasu another one of those stud Pac-12 centers, who has a complete game. Garcia was the best center at the Senior Bowl, and was able to compete with some pretty decent DTs there. Marpet is a small schooler who made a smooth transition at the Senior Bowl. Played OT in college, but is moving inside in the NFL. BJ Finney is a guy who had a terrific career at KSU, and kept his QBs clean.
1. Cameron Erving
2. Hroniss Grasu
3. Max Garcia
4. Ali Marpet
5. BJ Finney

His 300s are usually pretty good. OTC is better. Still for someone who can't go out and scout the players beyond what is available to the rest of us, he does pretty well.

It's not very often that I'm more familiar with a player than he is...

Scherff, Collins, Havenstein, and Sambraillio all have pretty short arms.

also looks like humphries packed on a ton of weight, great for his draft stock.

All have 33+" length... not perfection.. but not a measurement that prohibits them from playing out at OT.

According to PFF (for whatever that's worth) the top OTs last year in order were:

Branden Albert 33 5/8 arm
Derek Newton 33 1/8 arm
Joe Barksdale 36
Zack Strief 33 arm
King Dunlap 35 ¼ arm
Ja’Wuan James 35 arm
Jason Peters 33 1/8
Jermon Bushrod 34 ½
Joe Thomas 32 ½
Andre Smith Jr. 35 3/8

Well, don't be surprised if we take three OL players in this draft and have as many as 3 new starters next year. Rotoworld on Hudson situation:

Quote:
The Chiefs met with free agent Rodney Hudson's representative at the Combine.
Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star says the talks are ongoing. Hudson is seeking to become the highest-paid center in the NFL. This offseason is going to be quite the juggling act for the Chiefs as they look to re-sign Hudson and NFL sack-leader Justin Houston. The latter is likely to receive the franchise tag.
Though, it's probably most likely that the FO will decide that it's time to find out if Eric Kush can become the starting Center.

With CB Waynes moving up and possibly Bud Dupree we should be able to land a OT at 18 if thats what the Admin has in mind.

Losing good players every 3 or 4 years after we draft them sucks Hudson looking to get paid as any other player..... Raise the GD CAP its not like there is not enough $ to go around.

Losing Hudson might be the worst thing that could happen to the offense. But, having the highest paid center in the league is a tough pill to swallow.

If the team weren't pot-committed to Smith I could see a silver lining in that jackwad getting further exposed so they could potentially bring in a QB they could win with, but they aren't moving off of him for another 3-4 years anyway.
