Even factoring in the Chiefs sucking and the Royals and Mizzou filling that competitive void, I've found myself just not interested in watching other games. A lot of it is because of the rules changes -- I simply don't like the product.

Oddly, I still have a fantasy team, but I mostly just check the head-to-head app on that to see how the numbers are going. I don't seem to really care about games or players. It might as well be a computer simulation of the 1990 season or whatnot. I am oddly detached from the reality of the actual games being played.

It's almost like masturbating to porn. Guess that's why it's called "fantasy" football.

WOW!!! I thought I was all alone in this mess.

ALL of the ABOVE!!! Mainly the futility of the Chiefs but, also, rule changes and the stuff you guys mentioned.

Man am I delighted the guy at DTV only offered me ... $5 a month discount and then $8 and I canceled it. Since my interest in the NFL is way down, the only team I wanted to watch was the Chiefs and since they (Clark, Dorsey, Reid, Sutton) have totally failed ... I have little interest in watching them. The game this Sun. will be shown locally, but since I already know the outcome ... I'll DVR it but will probably never watch it.

I keep asking ... how can Philly be such a success right away ... how can Elway do what he is doing ... I mean win a playoff game with Tebow ... etc., etc. etc. and we just plain suck???

I must admit that my interest in the NFL has wained because the Chiefs do not have a chance ... it is the same since Marty left (because of the defense we always had a chance) ... lose for a few years ... bring in promising leadership ... show a little promise but fail ... repeat, repeat, repeat. So, yes interest is ....................

Now, if the Chiefs were a valid contender, I'd be interested. For instant ... for several years at best I'd only check the Royals' scores ... no interest in MBL ... not even the W.S. But since the Royals are showing a little promise I now watch a little of MLBNetwok. But, I don't think I'll ever be an avid fan. Same goes for NFL!!!

I thought Dorsey was a good hire, at the time, but his decisions (i.e. allowing Saunders to go to the Donks, etc.) seem to indicate he is in over his head. He is trying to duplicate Green Bay ... he forgets that GB lucked out with Farve and then with Rogers (Alex Smith is neither) ... plus, they made some excellent draft choices. Reid??? I thought if he only focused upon coaching we would have a winner ... but, it is looking like he is past his prime. What little I saw of the game last Sun. I heard the announcer say repeatedly the team didn't look sharp or ready to play.

What's really killing my enthusiasm for the league is that it's just a constant reminder that KC will never accomplish anything because they choose to repeat the same failed pattern of building a team around a backup QB in a time where you absolutely have to have an elite QB to have any sort of a chance to win year in and year out.

Why look at the Ferrari dealership when you can't afford a used Yugo?

This. I didn't watch muchof the Chiefs last week. Flipped it between the Royals and Redzone channel.

Your point is well illustrated in the Alex Smith trade. He was a good QB in SF but they recognized they needed better and went out and got one. Plus, Dorsey overpaid for him and we are stuck long range.

2. I can't add anything to what others have said. life is different, there are more sources of entertainment, and mediocrity will make even the staunchest fan lose interest.

I also agree that some of my attitude right now relates to the playoff travesty last year. As with many, it took something out of me. I will continue to watch but if something else comes up I am much more likely to do that and ignore the NFL than I was just a year ago.

My interest has nose-dived, but it's for a reason that I'm really surprised no one has mentioned yet--CTE. CTE has absolutely killed my love of football.

I noticed a decline in my mental capacity when I was about 23 years old (my mental recall was diminished, I started constantly forgetting what I was about to say, always forgetting why I went into a room, etc.). Then, the Frontline special came out and I started to connect all of the dots.

I don't view all of the recent rule changes in the NFL as a sudden desire to want to make the game flashier, I see it mostly as a pre-emptive measure to try and quell the shitstorm that science is about to unleash on the consequences of playing football.

The NFL doesn't want to wind up like boxing. The brutality of boxing became a little bit too real for people when they realized the consequences for the boxers.

That is exactly what happened to me with football. I used to love the brutality. Now I'm jaded by it.

3. The NFL has become what I despise most about society. Its over-priced marketing manipulation geared to the lowest common denominator. Its starting to insult my intelligence...corporate greed and PC liars. I'm sick of the stadiums being named after banks and investment groups. Its disgusting..

That said...if KC put a product on the field like Seattle...I would be excited. I not even sure I'm going to bother watching the bloodbath this Sunday..and that sucks only 2 weeks into the season.

Oh, yeah. I should add stadium naming to my list of grievances. It's terrible these days, absolutely terrible. I won't even mention those stupid corporate names. I'll just call it by the old name or refer to as [team name] Stadium.

I have no thoughts on them...except if I were a dentist..I would work in Utah. Those freaks have teeth you can see from space...Osmond syndrome.

The strange thing..I don't even know who i'm rooting for anymore.. the players switch teams so quickly. Flowers plays for the Chargers...and Vickerson is a Chief. Am I rooting for a corporate logo...a city...billionaire owners that gouge their fans...what?
