Manning "off the grid"

NFL.Com
Quote:
Palmer: Manning's teammates know little about his injury
Peyton Manning is out of the lineup and off the grid for the Denver Broncos.

NFL Media's James Palmer reported on NFL Network's TNF Gameday that Manning, who has been ruled out of Sunday's matchup against the Bears, hasn't attended any practices or meetings this week and hasn't had a single conversation about Sunday's game plan with Brock Osweiler, the fourth-year quarterback set to make his first career start.

Palmer has spoken to more than two dozen Broncos players. Each one has said they've heard of no timetable for a potential Manning return. Teammates don't even know the specifics of Manning's injury issues, though several assumed the foot is the primary concern. He underwent an MRI on his rib cage Monday, but Broncos coach Gary Kubiak told Palmer the results were negative.

According to Palmer, Broncos coach Gary Kubiak prefers Manning puts his full focus on treatment and getting healthy. Denver officials haven't decided if Manning will make the trip to Chicago this weekend.

On the Monday, Kubiak and Manning will sit down and determine whether he is healthy enough to play against Tom Brady and the undefeated New England Patriots on Nov. 29.

You can watch it. The Denver game is an early game. Chiefs - late game.

Good thing he scored two touchdowns against the CHIEFS

I get all that but Elway is gonna be Elway regardless. If that happens, they're still in the same boat as tons of other teams and that is they'll be without a franchise QB and will be looking for one. My $$$ would be on Elway signing Drew Brees and drafting a young QB and letting him develop for a couple of years before kicking Brees to the curb.

There was an article - may have been posted here earlier this week. It talked about the success of backup QBs that have been pushed into starting, similar to this scenario, and the backup has gone on to have a successful career only 2 previous times.

Brady coming in for an injured Drew Bledsoe and ... oddly enough, Tony Romo coming in for an injured Drew Bledsoe.

So, it doesn't account for backups like Rodgers stepping in as the starter the year after a guy like Favre leaves.

Interesting... and if you're into that stuff, it doesn't bode well for Brock or Denver.
Sucks for Osweiler that the two guys who know his strengths and weaknesses best are coaching for the opponent this week.

Yeah, it's not a win-win by any means, but all things considered... it's good to have a slate of real games to see what he can do and it's a good list of teams as well.

They have the cushion to support a learning curve too, and if OAK and or KC stumbles at all really in the next 3-4 weeks, then it just helps Denver's cause. Neither KC nor OAK has proven to be a model of consistency this season.

It's good timing... much better than trying to see what Brock brings with no real game time experience leading into the playoffs, now he can realistically have 7 games.

Manning being 'off the grid' is a sign that Brock's status as the starter is certainly more than just this week, win or lose.

Sure, but they don't know him in Kubiak's offense, so that's a difference. And, still a good neutralizer is Cutler and Denver's defense. All things considered, this could be McManus vs Gould for the win.

I was thinking that as well BUT this is Brock Mallet in Kube's bootleg offense, so it wont automatically be checkmate Chicago.

It must be killing Manning to not only fail at getting the All Time wins record at 187 (Currently tied with Favre) but to have the worst game of his career and get benched.

The more games he sits out- the less likely he will get the Completions record from Favre as well.

Brees or Brady will end up with all the records when they are done.

If Osweiler sucks, Broncos are screwed. Teams don't just magically acquire franchise QBs because there is a need.

Kubiak was 61-64 during his Houston tenure, battling out Manning and the Colts.

In 5 of his 8 years there, the team was .500 or better. Lots of coaches fall flat the first time around.
