Alexander Douglas Smith: 2016

We wouldn't we want to roll out another Alex Smith thread?!?!? Listen, for the Clay haters, this will probably be the thread that gets him banned. He can't help himself, right? Let's go!!!

First off, as many of you know, I have been very critical of Alexander Douglas Smith. Wasn't happy with the trade, HATED the extension, and have burned him to the ground from the beginning. So ****ing sick of the retread QB's.

So, that said Alex Smith is my Daddy. I mean, I just have to own that at this point. Here's why. He's never had continuity in a system. That guy had a new offensive coordinator just about every year until Jim Harbaugh showed up. And he flashed a little bit. That said, it sure looks like San Fran traded their best QB to us in favor of some douche that's starting some thing all over the league, while riding the bench to a guy named Blaine Gabbert.

Alex is now in his 4th year of the same system and it's showing. He's getting better. Why is he my daddy now all of a sudden though? Because he proved that he's more than just a game manager. He made some ****ing incredible throws against the Chargers last week. The back shoulder Maclin throw, the Maclin throw where Jeremy was almost killed, The Spencer Ware throws. Twice he hit him downfield (like, way more than 8 yards!), and then finally the Kelce throws.

People can give Spencer Ware a lot of credit, he is deserving of it after the monster game he had. Make no mistake about it though, Alexander Douglas Smith personally put this team on his back and willed them to victory. 1 play at a time. 1 throw at a time. He's a leader, and it reflected in the locker room after that game. They trust Alex now. They trust that he has what it takes to will them to victory in any game.

Alex isn't just a game manager anymore. He's a game changer, and a leader. This team could go 6-10 this year and I'll say the same thing. He has the ability and he's proven it. Now let's see where they go with it. I'm officially a YUGE Alex fan. What do you think? I'll take your comments off air.

Yes. It was..

But thats PRECISELY why is maddening. Everyone who knew smith except for his cult of alexsexuals, KNEW that this would happen. He would be decent, but still unable to get deep in the playoffs without an absolutely elite defense and running game.

Go back to the thread the day we got him. There was basically a revolution that was happening....the stadium was unable to sell out....bleeding ticket holders....They needed someone to come in and be able to at least turn the ship around...

I get that....Alex was good for that role...He wasnt gonna make too many mistakes....so that happened and we started winnign regular season games...but the side effect was that the powers that be have not gotten a legitimate replacement and a QBOTF type guy....(unless you think it is Foles, which it probably is not).

In an ideal world, we couldve started a QB project a couple seasons ago and be ready to unleash him midway through this year if this season is a disaster or next year if it is a typical 8-8 or 10-6 1 and done type of thing...

But were not, we wont...and we didnt....I would have loved to have seen ALex tutor some young buck last season, this season and have groomed him to take over.....

But hey maybe at some point there can be an actual battle for the QB job...maybe? I mean I realize that we got the shaft when we had the 1.1 pick....weak draft class, no QB's that looked good, and ALbert was looking hurt and wanting to get paid...but at some point....

Arent we going have to take a swing on a QB in the draft? At least swing the god damn bat? No?

What kind of load of crap is this? After 12 years in the NFL... NOW is the time to make him a pocket QB and build his trust with an oline that hasn't been consistently the same in his 4 years here or whatever gasbag take you are trying to spew to defend the fact that half of what made Alex Smith even decent was his ability to be sneaky fast and extend the chains with his legs. You take that away, which either teams are, or maybe dare I say FATHER TIME has taken that away from him, he's almost useless as a QB. He's not beating most from the pocket. Sure he can beat whatever crap QBs the Browns are throwing out there or whatever career backup noodle arms like Ryan Fitzpatrick. But he's not beating many people from the pocket without his ability to use his legs. Unless of course half the leagues starting QBs get injured and he has a 7 game window of playing 2nd and 3rd string nobodies again.

If anything, Alex's soon-to-be-short-lived Chiefs career has proved one thing: you absolutely need a franchise QB if you really want to compete.

Because you're gonna have offseasons where the cap ****s you.

Because you just might have shit corners one year.

Because you just might have a crap pass rush when your top OLB takes forever to heal.

Because your elite RB might get hurt.

Because your FA RT diamond might suck dick.

Shit happens. Get a franchise QB or whoever you have in there is just gonna choke on all that shit.

This is the key point here. I got into this argument with Tiger or Sandy pre-season...Maybe I will dig it up...But I was and am absolutely convined there will be no repeat of 600 yards rushing.....that was a valiant effort at extending plays (and a career) because the passing game was weak. It will be taken away either by time, other teams or by injury if he is dumb enough to keep going that route.....

A 1 dimensional alex is dead meat IMO....especially without an absolutely BEAST of a running game and also a defense that keeps it very close

There is really only two scenarios regarding why he isn't using his legs.

1) He's developed the yips and is afraid all of a sudden

or

2) He's lost a step and his career decline is looking awfully similar to how McNabb dropped off.

Only difference is Andy cut the cord perfectly on McNabb and might have been a year too late on Smith.
