Alexander Douglas Smith: 2016

We wouldn't we want to roll out another Alex Smith thread?!?!? Listen, for the Clay haters, this will probably be the thread that gets him banned. He can't help himself, right? Let's go!!!

First off, as many of you know, I have been very critical of Alexander Douglas Smith. Wasn't happy with the trade, HATED the extension, and have burned him to the ground from the beginning. So ****ing sick of the retread QB's.

So, that said Alex Smith is my Daddy. I mean, I just have to own that at this point. Here's why. He's never had continuity in a system. That guy had a new offensive coordinator just about every year until Jim Harbaugh showed up. And he flashed a little bit. That said, it sure looks like San Fran traded their best QB to us in favor of some douche that's starting some thing all over the league, while riding the bench to a guy named Blaine Gabbert.

Alex is now in his 4th year of the same system and it's showing. He's getting better. Why is he my daddy now all of a sudden though? Because he proved that he's more than just a game manager. He made some ****ing incredible throws against the Chargers last week. The back shoulder Maclin throw, the Maclin throw where Jeremy was almost killed, The Spencer Ware throws. Twice he hit him downfield (like, way more than 8 yards!), and then finally the Kelce throws.

People can give Spencer Ware a lot of credit, he is deserving of it after the monster game he had. Make no mistake about it though, Alexander Douglas Smith personally put this team on his back and willed them to victory. 1 play at a time. 1 throw at a time. He's a leader, and it reflected in the locker room after that game. They trust Alex now. They trust that he has what it takes to will them to victory in any game.

Alex isn't just a game manager anymore. He's a game changer, and a leader. This team could go 6-10 this year and I'll say the same thing. He has the ability and he's proven it. Now let's see where they go with it. I'm officially a YUGE Alex fan. What do you think? I'll take your comments off air.

I want to see the play Alex missed a TD to Ware. Was he just not looking? Was his line of sight blocked by Watt? Did he get happy feet?

Run was getting stuffed and passes were either off the mark or they were dropped. Add fumbles and 77 yards in penalties to that and you have a 19 to 12 loss.
Even if you took away the two long runs by Ware and West, we were averaging 4.6 yards per carry.

4.6 yards per carry (7.4 ypc if you include the two big runs)
5.0 yards per passing attempt

Everyone on offense sucked though.

IIRC, he broke free right when Alex set his feet and shoulders for the sideline.

One could argue Alex could have seen it if he stood in a bit more, but the safety dropped him along the back of the EZ in favor of moving to the flat in anticipation of Alex's flat pass. So who's to say the safety wouldn't have continued to press coverage if Alex hadn't set to pass in the flat?

When a QB regularly does this, looking for excuses why it happens so often is doing nothing more than that....looking for excuses.

Also, your post implies it was one play. This happened multiple times.

We should have won. A winner at QB would have got us there.
Don't blame Alex then.

He's executing the offense he's given...

Run WARE.

His two biggest runs were negated by penalties and once they were we stick West in and went full rHETart.

Don't get tricky. Don't use a ****-ton of motion or strange formations.

Line up. Give Ware a FB. Punish the defense.

When they start crowding the box use play action. Alex might be, and I mean this, the absolute best play action passer in the game right now. Not only is he most effective off of play action but he's ****ing good at it.

Quit being ****ing tricky and start being realistic...

Is It Andy's fault Alex misses a wide open Ware for a td?

What about a wide open Ware on a wheel route that would have gone for at least 40 yards?

What about hitting a wide open Kelce on third down that would have extended the drive and put us in the red zone?

No excuses at all. Alex ****ed up from what I saw. Should have been a TD.

We have a spaghetti team and we're making it sound like rocket science.

It's not.

Find what we do best and do it until they stop us...

Nope. I remember the Pats saying one thing, and one thing only, that I must have heard a hundred times (and I don't even watch many sports shows):

On to Cincinnati.

Found a GIF, looks like the DB from the far side slowed up in response to Alex as well.

It's one of those that looks obvious in retrospect, but ignores the effect of what actually happened on the overall picture.

I love how wide open Spencer Ware can get. Such great talent in the passing game.
