Favorite Stories with your dad.

I don't think I've seen a thread here like this, but for Father's Day give us some of your favorite memories you had with your dad. One of mine was when I paid for my dad and I to go up to Lake Erie and hit a walleye charter. I was trying everything to catch as many as I could. My dad would fall asleep about every 20 minutes, he would jerk himself awake and he would jerk his fishing pole up so hard it would smack the top of the roof on the boat. Each time he would wake up, he would real his line in and 50% of the time he had a fish on the line. One time his pole was bent pretty significantly, so I woke him up, he reeled in a 25 inch 6.5lb walleye LOL, it was hilarious.

Another one of mine, we had a hobby farm, horses, pigs, sheep, chickens, turkeys. I was about 10 years old, I went to get the chicken eggs, it was late, probably 9pm so it was dark. I heard a hissing as soon as I came in the coop. I ran to get my dad, he grabbed his 12gauge and a flashlight. We got back to the coop, he told me to go grab a pitchfork, do I did. This coon wouldn't leave the coop, it ran up into the rafters, so my dad skewered it with the pitchfork and pinned it to the wall. He tells me to come over and hold it as tight as I can against the wall "and" hold the flashlight. So I did, 30 seconds later, he blasted 3 holes through the coon. I ended up rupturing my ear drum completely on one side lol, good times.

We were in Seattle having breakfast in the Space Needle. I was drinking hot chocolate. I was about halfway done with my cup.

Dad was drinking coffee. The waiter came along and refilled his cup. He also refilled my half-drunken hot chocolate with coffee.

Dad made me drink it.

Late summer, 1957, Mom was in the hospital, recovering from having my sister so my dad and I were "baching it". So far we had done pretty well in keeping the house clean and eating, but Dad's culinary skills were pretty much limited to frying burgers and bacon and eggs. Mom had a bumper crop of lettuce that year in her garden, but there's only so much of that you can eat. The decision was made to do some bacon sandwiches and wilted lettuce. Fry up the bacon, cut up some lettuce, radishes, and onions. Take the bacon grease, add some vinegar and sugar, pour that over the lettuce, radishes, and onions, viola -- wilted lettuce.
Summer in Hays, Kansas is hot, especially with no air conditioning. So I was down to only a pair of shorts and Dad was shirtless in his khaki pants. Frying the bacon went pretty well and there was plenty of grease. Dad added the sugar to the grease and there were some small pops as the crystals started to dissolve. Next came the vinegar. Either the grease was too hot or he poured the vinegar in too fast because disaster struck. A volcano erupted, sending a lava of the vinegar and grease mixture and molten chucks of sugar onto the walls, stove, and Dad's torso. "Jimeny Christmas!" he shouted, the worst expletive I ever heard my dad utter. The pan was flung out the back door, followed by the bowl of lettuce. Cooler heads prevailed before the bacon became airborne. Bacon is the candy of meat.
After things settled down, we began the massive cleanup of grease, sugar, vinegar, and assorted vegetables. When that was done, the bacon really didn't look all that appealing and the place still smelled of vinegar. The Papa Burgers and root beer at the A&W sure were good that night. And the next.

When I was 10, my dad (and uncle) took me & older brother to my first Indy 500. It poured rain all weekend, and the race was canceled until next week. We drove home bummed.

On Friday, e came down the stairs and said "Pack your bags boys, we're going back". My brother and I went nuts high fiving. I can still remember packing my bag again.

In 1984, my dad's summer project for him and me was to put in a sunken wellhouse to hopefully prevent the water from freezing in the winter. We worked every night for a week digging though layers of clay and rock. After we finished the project, dad lit a bonfire and grabbed a cooler of beer from the back of his truck. He said he was impressed with all of my hard work and that in his eyes I had become a man that week. We drank nearly a case that night, I was 16 at the time.

Definitely a bonding moment and one of my favorite moments with him

I was going to post that my dad sent me the Ewok Village when I was a youngster and given I didn't really know him that was my favorite memory. It made me realize, I was probably a dumbshit kid, I bet my mom bought it and just wanted me to think I had a dad who cared. Thinking back on it as an adult, it seems pretty obvious, I can't think of any other gift he sent.. that Ewok Village though!

In 1984 my father beat the shit out of both my mother and I. Spoke with him less than 10 times after that. He called me on his deathbed begging forgiveness.

He got none.

There was the time, though, he sent me an original Nintendo for a birthday. Great ****ing dude.

Happy Fathers Day all!!!!!!!

This was the first story to pop into my head when I noticed the thread title. My dad likes to gamble. And a little bit too much so. Like I remember being asked my opinion on who was gonna win some NBA regular season games and big college outcomes when I was a kid. I think that he finally found the help that he needed as I haven't heard about any foul ups since this story

I had been on a layoff and was having some issues finding something else and had fallen behind on some bills. So they let me stay with them until I was back on my feet. I had found a job and was feeling pretty good. I got back to the house and he wasn't back from wherever yet. He walked through the door and so I let him know the good news. He seemed very distracted and mumbled some comment about that being nice or something along those lines. I asked what was going on

He claimed that he'd messed up. I asked the specifics. He mentioned how he had just arrived back from a long drive after leaving the casino. I just told him to tell mom that he had loaned some money to me. He conveyed to me that he'd used the ATM there telling my mother exactly where he'd drawn money from also obviously for what purpose

She checked their account every day after work so she was gonna know not long after getting back from work. He was going to come clean with her as soon as she walked through the door. I told him that I was bailing and to contact me when the coast was clear. I went to the mall for a couple of hours. He calls me to inform me that the coast will never be clear again before ending the call

I went out to my car and drove to their house. My dad was moving into the other guest room as I got back to there. I guess that they were going to get a divorce, but he started getting involved by volunteering with some local charities to keep himself busy and outta trouble
