Just saw it. Not as horrible as I heard but, then again, I'm not a comic geek nor a huge X-Man fan. I like McAvoy and Fassbender and how they portray X and Magneto and give their backstory. I like watching former baddies like Nightcrawler and Mystique getting to turn a bit to the good side since their futures were all reset in "DoFP" (much like "Star Trek" rebooted the futures of their characters). Yes, it was a large story with a lot of characters, and it could've been stronger with more focus, but it's a story which has a big cast of characters. Lawrence was fine, and looked good as always. Munn should dress like that every day of the week, even though she was underused. Didn't mind the young take on Storm, liked how they're fleshing out Quicksilver. Yes, the baddie went down easy, but there's an inherent problem in the X-Men universe anyway because at one time or another ALL of them seem to be "the most powerful". Magneto, Xavier, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Rogue, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch... the argument can be made for all of them (and, from what I understand, has been made for all of them, in various comics and films). All their powers are different but they all suffer from a bit of the Superman syndrome where they're all-powerful but easily beat when the story calls for it (whereas, with Avengers, they all have clear weaknesses). Compared to the initial X-Men films IMO the recent younger-cast versions (First Class, DoFP, and this one) are definitely a large improvement. As for Singer, he is what he is. He has his style, just like Abrams does, just like Snyder does, and either you like it or you don't. Personally I don't find his style as jarring as either of the other two but I like all three.

Early estimates, based off yesterday are of a 66% week 2 drop

As for Fox’s X-Men Apocalypse, it has suffered a sharp 66% decline for its second weekend, falling to $6.5 million on Friday and looking to head into a $22 million weekend.

I absolutely adore that film.

I disagree completely.

I think Singer is very comfortable at this point surfing on the backs of great actors and 14 year old boys...

Here's what I don't get: Marvel has made movies (that aren't straight to VHS/DVD) for a decade now. At times the CGI is questionable (Bana Hulk) but never terrible.

How can this flick have the budget it has with Beast looking like a cosplay character and quite often people clearly being guided by wires? That completely sucks me out of the movie and looks like they just don't care.

It wasn't a terrible movie (even though it seems there was a push to have people believe that pre-release) but the post-production was terrible, forcing Hunger Games on us was terrible, and the script/plot once it left character development early on was terrible.

It was like watching a Herm coached Chiefs team: the players gave their all but couldn't overcome the stupidity and strategy of the HC...

Jean Grey walking on air was kind of embarrassing. It's like they had to use a high school play special fx team for that scene. It was just terrible and cheap looking.

Just got around to seeing this.

I enjoyed it. I tried not to read too much into it, but just hang on for a popcorn flick, which it was. It was not as good as First Class or DoFP, but it was still fun enough. I look forward to how they portray Mr. Sinister going forward. Also, this is the second time Singer has hinted at Jean as the Phoenix Force. Would they dare tackle something cosmic like the Phoenix Force, or return back to some lame ass The Last Stand "She's stronger than a level 5 mutant!!" crap? If they did go big, they could incorporate the Shi'ar and the Imperial Guard....

And holy lord, Olivia Munn. Aaron Rodgers, I think I want to be you in my next life.

And also - Apocalypse went down way too easy for as powerful as he was. Again, if Jean was using the Phoenix Force it could take him down. Just saying.

I thought they showed him to be plenty powerful.

He took on an amped Magneto, Cyclops, and Beast while simultaneously fighting Prof X in the astral plane.

I thought it was pretty apparent that Jean was tapping into the Phoenix Force and no one we've seen in the MCU, Fox or Sony comic book world is ****ing with that thing.

Yeah, when she powered down after the fight you could clearly see the Phoenix silhouette.

I really hope if they go the Phoenix Force route they do it justice and not eviscerate the story like what happened to Galactus/Silver Surfer. Dark Phoenix would be a great movie, especially with a little Mister Sinister on the side.

Just watched this for the 3rd time and the performances were great. I can't fault the actors/actresses.

This should have been a great flick. You can see what this story should have been in this muddled mess. It was there. The performances pulled it from a complete F of a film to a B- ONLY due to the talent.

The X-MEN franchise has become the 90's Raiders - they'll pay for the best but after that they have no idea what to do with them...
