There should be spoiler tags from when the movie launches til 3 days after that. After that it should be fair game. If you are so gung ho to to read a thread about the movie you should have seen it with in that time frame.

This was pretty disappointing. Singer just cannot make a good complete film. Lots of parts that really work. But negated by shitty writing and completely forgettable performances by just about everyone. Jennifer Lawrence was pretty bad. She just didn't fit the part at all, and I couldn't get behind her character in the slightest. Psylocke was a waste of a cool character. Quicksilver once again stole the show. Apocalypse looked goofy as hell, and his plan was irrational and silly. But overall, this film was a mess that could have been really good.

To those that didn't like Apocalypse and his reasoning, what do you think they could have done to make it better?

  • Something beyond the stupidly simplistic "We're going to kill everyone and make a better world." They never do anything to further his agenda beyond 80's cartoon villain nonsense. They never flesh out any of his personality or thoughts. He feels completely disconnected from the world he seems so intent to destroy.
  • Maybe show an actual compelling reason for his followers/Horsemen to actually fight for him. Because through the entire movie, the only ones who actually remained loyal were the initial Horsemen that died protecting him during the initial uprise against him. The current generation of Horsemen were each like "Meh, I'm done now." Which made his ties to his Horsemen confusing and weak.
  • Maybe show something a little smarter than his Short Circuit-esque "TV watching to gain the entirety of human history" BS, or as Apocalypse described it "Leeaaaaarnnnnnnnnning" Which was as dumb as the old Lightning Toad quote. And there was a disconnect between him wanted to destroy humanity, before he actually knew anything about humanity over the last few thousand years.
  • His outfit/makeup made him look more like an awkward old man with purple skin, than anything close to the most powerful mutant ever. Nothing about him evoked much fear or intimidation.

These are legit complaints.

I don't know much about Apocalypse but he seems like the quintessential 80s villain from what I know.

I liked the movie but still leaning towards Fish's take on the movie. I could have been a lot better. Seem to say that about most Singer directed movies. Fassbender is a great actor, his work in the bar scene in Inglorious bastards was some Oscar worthy acting.

I love me some Olivia Munn and she barely got to speak in the movie or get flushed out in any meaningful way.

In the comix he's plenty fleshed out and solid as an evil doer.

I completely disagree with those who say the acting was terrible. Hell, I thought the performances took a total $#it script and tried to make the most of it. Other than Hunger-games I thought everyone did a solid job...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

The biggest plot **** up was the DoFP ending showing Wolverine's future self and the world isn't in a cataclysmic crossroad. Meaning the shit that happened in '83 was resolved in a positive fashion with everything considered.

There are more but, yeah, that's the biggest.

And on 1st viewing I was actually impressed. Based on reviews I expected this to be total $3it.

It wasn't. Hell, if it wasn't for the horrid practical effects (literally on the same level as the 1st X-men film) it might have been the 2nd best X-flick.

I WANTED it to be, the acting was possibly the best of all the X-Flicks, but sweet Jesus the transitions from CGI to practical was ****ing horrid. How do **** up that bad with that much money?

My biggest issue with it was the total disregard for back story of the characters. It seemed to me like they looked at the macro view of xmen, and just shoe horned a story with out confirming backstories. I feel like the connection to Magneto's character really saved this movie for me. I would like to see a magneto movie.

I would also see someone, anyone, take a serious attempt at Angel. Twice now he has been presented as a glorified extra.

Singer is bad. Some will quote this and say Usual Suspects was great. It wasn't. Kevin Spacey was. Watch that movie again some of the performances were laughable and the movie is uneven.

Singer can only create a 3 star movie at his very best.
