Country Club Plaza = Bannister Mall part 2?

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - More than 100 teens converged on the Country Club Plaza Saturday night and created a ruckus for patrons and a lot of work for Kansas City police officers.

Read more: http://www.kshb.com/dpp/news/local_n...#ixzz2tczs9I7u

Stories like those about the plaza have been rolling in for the last year or longer. At one point there was a shooting and they have put a curfew in place

I remember years ago bannister mall area was thriving. Hypermart and all the other surrounding stores were very popular and always busy. Crime slowly strangled the area and people chose to go elsewhere. The whole place turned into a ghost town. Obviously Cerner is building there now but the question I pose is simple

There are a lot of options other than the plaza around KC so...

Will the Plaza die the same way the Bannister area did?

The Plaza sucks.

So does P&L.

I rarely go to Westport.

Johnson Co is truly where it's at. I've had a much better time going out there than anytime I've had going downtown recently.

Wow how times changed. I grew up in the north land. Every year I would take a girl...girl friend or friend girl to the plaza for dinner in December with the lights. The most fun I had was with a foreign exchange chick from South Africa. We took a horse and buggy ride and the snow came down. Big White ping pong balls of snow flakes. Dang, too be young again

I was there a few weeks ago. During the afternoon it was safe, but I was surprised how many storefronts are empty.

I was there a few weeks ago as I brought my girl to KC to show her around.

We stayed at the Intercontinental. Man that sure was a mistake. What a dump that place is nowadays.

Who knows what changed....

In all seriousness, with all the things that have opened in OP, Leawood, the Legends, downtown KCMO, Lee's Summit, Independence....there's little reason to go to the Plaza anymore (for that swank outing).

Don't worry guys, you can get away from the black people by going to Town Center in Leawood. I know that is really what you all wanted to say.

Well it's not a bunch of Mexican or white kids jumping on parked cars and ganging up 5 on 1 at bars and restaurants. Just saying...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —An armed robber held up a popular restaurant at the Country Club Plaza over the weekend, with patrons still inside.

The employees at Gram & Dun at 600 Ward Parkway said they’re glad no one was hurt.

Police said the gunman sneaked up on an employee in the building’s basement about 10 p.m. Saturday night and asked where the money was. The employee opened the safe and the suspect grabbed the petty cash box and ran out the back door.

Police said they’re still trying to figure out why the gunman went downstairs.

Plaza patrons said it’s an example of why people can’t be too careful.

“I’m not surprised after all this stuff happening. Really, I’m not,” said patron Behnam Zakeri. “I mean, I’m sad, but I guess we have to be prepared.”

No one from the restaurant wanted to do an on-camera interview with KMBC, but the employees said they’re relieved that no one was injured and they hope the gunman will be caught.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
