Mack Rhoades is a Mother****ing Disaster

Here's another cherry on the shit sundae:

Missouri's softball team has launched a protest against athletics director Mack Rhoades and the athletic administration, according to the Columbia Daily Tribune.

Players released a statement before playing a game Saturday, under protest, at home against South Carolina.

“The Missouri athletic department is conducting a wholly unsubstantiated investigation of our softball program and the softball coaching staff,” the statement reads. “The softball players support and love our coaching staff, and we wonder why this black cloud is being put over our program intentionally by Mizzou AD Mack Rhoades.”

I will admit that I am extremely demanding of coaches and executives, and probably unfairly so. DJ once asked me if there was a coach I haven't hated, and it's been damned hard to find examples for the teams I've rooted for.

However, I usually believe that there are early indicators of incompetence that are strongly suggestive of future performance, and I tend to treat those indicators similar to the way I would a relationship

For example: once Pioli traded for and then extended Cassel I wanted him gone because he committed money and precious resources to a guy he didn't have to when he had the leverage (and plenty of cap space).

To me, that's a girl thinking about wedding dresses and moving in after two dates. She's nuts. Get the **** out. And any sane guy would.

As soon as the Shapiro stuff broke about Haith I was done with him, because it was clear the guy was unethical in addition to being mediocre.

That's a girl who ****ed her last boyfriend's best friend. Get gone quick.

As soon as Rhoades stuck with Anderson I said he was an ass clown, because if you can't get a decision that easy right, you probably can't get much of anything right. And then the Porters moved, he ****ed up the baseball hire, and decided to lay down landmines all around the softball program while doing donuts in a nitroglycerin truck over the top of it.

I know that the common consensus is that these jobs are difficult. They really aren't, at least intellectually. I'm sure they are quite difficult to navigate politically, but anyone who follows college athletics as their job should be able to come up with a list of who the competent coaches are and then start working their way down the list to convince them to come to a program.

I don't think Mack Rhoades could sell gasoline to a Vietnamese monk.
I want to know what kind of girl that is.

It's not a matter of finding a good/qualified person, it's a matter of the school getting the student body and faculty under control so the person can do their job.

One step closer to Sunvold.

REJOICE, BLUE HAIRS! YOUR NORMTOPIA IS ONE STEP CLOSER TO COMPLETION!!!

Seriously, let's just name the old ****ing goat as the Chancellor and get this shit over with. Let's just flush all this idiot nostalgia out of our system. Once we can conclusively establish that 'the good old days' were actually pretty ****ing mediocre, we can perhaps move forward with some semblance of a plan.

Jon ****ing Sunvold....because he could shoot....unreal.

The problems with the university start with the BOC, and that was immediately clear when they hired the same search firm they used to hire Kim ****ing Anderson to find the new AD.

A bad BOC hires bad presidents. Bad presidents hire bad chancellors. Bad presidents and chancellors **** everything else up, and recommend bad ADs, who hire bad coaches.

Beyond your general anger towards anyone remotely tied to the Norm Stewart era, what are your reservations towards Sunvold?

If you believe he doesn't have the skill set I can understand but if you just hate him because of the fact he played for Norm Stewart isn't that a bit much?

And....who do you think would be the best candidate?

Maybe Sunvold would be a great AD, but people are supporting him only because he played for Norm, and they're fishing for reasons that he would be good that aren't legitimate, like him running a business.

I thought it would be Wren Baker.

And yes, at this point I'm just actively opposed to all nostalgia hires. If Jon Sundvold wasn't tied at the hip to Norm Stewart, he'd never even be considered for this job as he's not even remotely qualified for it based on his resume.

Worse still, this athletic department - this school in general - has been bogged down in a morass of shit for the better part of the last 18 months...why exactly is an internal hire a good idea? A guy that has been insulated in this environment his entire adult life, an environment that has led to, well wherever the hell we find ourself right now. An environment that has routinely led to serious leadership vacuums.

And apart from being a friggen broadcaster, precisely what has he done to show he has any business running the athletic department?

It's a hire that will be immediately made for the wrong reasons, just as the Anderson hire was. It will be another kowtowing to the same old idiot boosters that had a huge hand in putting us here. It will be just more insular nonsense. At his absolute best, Sundvold will be a bag man.

I don't need a reason not to hire someone to be the athletic director for a power 5 school. I need a reason to actually hire him. "Well he shot some 3 pointers a long time ago and he's on my TV a lot" is not sufficient.

Exactly.

Take Norm out of the equation and everyone that supports him suddenly goes "who?"

Oh they'll tie themselves in knots right now coming up with BS excuses, but it's all the same nonsensical rationalization that led us to hiring Kim Anderson.

The shit of it is that this University to equate bad results with a bad process....then turn to a worse process. The Quin Snyder hire worked out horribly but the process that led to it was outstanding. As soon as it went to hell, the University went into full bombshell defense mode and hasn't emerged since.

Well I suspect that's going to happen with the Rhoades thing. The process that went into the Rhoades hire was a good one; it was simply a bad hire. Sometimes shit happens. Go back and try it again.

It's Todd Blackledge all over again. "Holy shit...that worked out poorly, let's never ever try it again". Sometimes bad results are just bad results; they don't mean the process was wrong or even that the decision was. Get on your horse and try again.
