The Early Years Tournament: Round 3, Heat 2. Sweet 16.

2020 - Week 7 - W 43-16 over DEN

Chiefs 5-1 / Broncos 2-3

This wasn't a snow game. It was a snow murder reminiscent of the wood chipper scene in Fargo. The Chiefs outscored the other team (broncos) in every quarter, and scored in pretty much every way - running, passing, an interception, and a kickoff return, topped by three field goals. On the opening drive, watch CEH break 5 tackles on an 11-yard TD run. As expected, the game featured a Melvin Gordon fumble that Wharton nabbed before it even hit the ground. And how many pick-sixes does Sorensen have against the broncos? It's at least three, including a graceful one in this game. And watch the Pringle kickoff return at 5:20 of the highlights. He makes a great juke between two broncos to score from 102 yards out. Oh, my goodness. I just watched 8:00 on the highlights where Frank Clark ends up with a bronco flea flicker attempt - how did I forget about that? Chad Henne and the second team offense finished out the game with another touchdown on a quarterback run (not sneak). Statistically, Patrick spread the ball around a lot, so our leading yardage guy was Mecole with 70. Defensively, everyone had a good day with 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 sacks.

Chiefs 4-2 / 49ers 3-3

The Chiefs were an offensive juggernaut on this day. Case in point: Mecole Hardman scored three touchdowns, and he was tied for fourth in yards from scrimmage with 60, behind Juju (124), MVS (111), and Kelce (98). Pacheco also had 60. Patrick had a great day with 423 yards passing. Our six touchdowns averaged 17 yards in length. The defense gave up points, but also registered 5 sacks (2 by Chris Jones that included a strip, and a safety by Frank Clark), and 2 interceptions. Joshua Williams made a great red zone interception to stop a very short drive after a fumbled punt return. Per tradition, we spotted the 49ers a 10 point lead before blowing the doors off of them with 30 second-half points. Unfortunately, the highlights don't show the signature play of this game, where the Chiefs flipped their feet in unison on a field goal attempt to cause a false start.

Both of these were fun games, but the broncos game was a snow game. Snow games are great. It also had a lot of fun plays like the Clark fumble recovery and the KO touchdown and the pick six. It was a full team victory.

Dirty Dan Pick Six alert!

Both of those games were fun to watch, but I have to go with the Denver game. That in spite of Brock Purdy's first(?) appearance that led to a Thornhill interception. Henne's rushing TD celebration was better, lol.

I went with the SF game last year.

Felt like a game where the team took a major step towards becoming Super Bowl champs.

Frank Clark whooping Trent Williams was hilarious.

Orlando Brown Jr. thought Williams looked slow against a speed rusher on that play.
