McGregor made weight by 0.5 LBS. I bet he was sweating that one. Mayweather gets free money if he didn't make it.

McGregor is going to be huge in the ring. Mayweather probably didn't have to cut at all as he was at his more natural weight, he had to try hard to gain if anything.

MMA commentator said McGregor will probably add around ten pounds of body weight between now and the fight. Said it will help him in clinches to be bigger, that he's been training as MMA not boxing.
I'm suddenly intrigued.

I hear you. The sport of boxing had certainly better hope so.

There's no need to hope. Floyd was -3500 against Andre Berto. McGregor is getting six times better odds than a guy that was a world champion. It is absolute insanity that anyone would be anything on McGregor at those odds. It's like thinking that a decathlete would beat Usain Bolt in the 100 meters.

This is not particularly unusual for an MMA weigh-in. Because wrestling is a big part of MMA, and wrestlers have figured out weight cuts to a science, it is routine for MMA fighters to be 10 pounds overweight the day before, where they have been loading up on water for a week, getting their bodies used to eliminating water as quickly as possible, then they abruptly stop drinking and the cut begins. If a boxer is a few pounds overweight shortly before a weigh-in, thats a disaster because they don't have a weight-cutting culture, but MMA does.

They simply keep losing weight until they are on weight, and they stop the cut and go to the weigh-in. Its common for fighters to be exactly on weight within half a pound because they have their own scales that work. Conor was probably extra-careful to be on weight when he went a pound under, most MMA fighters weigh in exactly on weight or maybe a half pound under. The fact that Conor was a full pound under was not a sign that he was cutting it close, but rather that he was making for damn sure he'd be on weight or under on the big stage.

You're right.
I hosted every Tyson fight at my place when he was king. Ever since Buster none of that means anything to me. I'm not predicting an upset but Im sure as hell not ruling it out.

The thing that makes this interesting is that Conor is probably not going to try to box Mayweather in a traditional boxing stance. He can't its impossible. Mayweather is the greatest boxer in this generation, you can't just start learning how to box traditionally a year out and hope to beat him.

Conor is going to go in with goofy stances and awkward angles and hope to catch him. Its gonna be a polished experienced champion boxer vs an athlete doing weird shit, and it probably wont work, but it might.

If Conor doesn't KO Mayweather within 5 rounds though, then its probably over.

Yeah, but it's an insult to compare McGregor to Douglas. This is much closer to Peter McNeeley vs. Tyson.

I wasn't comparing them. Its impossible, there is no common denominator. I'm interested in seeing what Floyd does of he finds himself in a street fight he can't run away from.

By bringing up the possibility of an upset, you're making a comparison that both had a chance to win. Douglas had a chance to win because he's a boxer. McGregor isn't. I don't mean to be pedantic, but this fight is only being talked about because it's a sideshow and people want to talk themselves into the possibility of something bizarre happening to justify watching it.

It's the nature of our sports debate culture.

Even the nature of McGregor's punching power is being talked up, yet he's never thrown a punch in a sanctioned fight with 8 oz. gloves.

Floyd's a piece of shit as a human being, but he has no chance of losing this fight, short of him tearing his ACL in some sort of freak accident.

This fight will last as long as Floyd wants it to.

I get what you're trying to say, but even a 40 year old Mayweather will pick him apart in less than 3 rounds...

This will be an embarrassment of a $ grab for the ages...
