Playoff thoughts

I haven't really been paying much attention to the NFL with the Chiefs horrible start. But looking at the standings it looks like there would still be a possibility for the chiefs to make the playoffs. I know, I know thats not popular - lets lose for draft position yada schmada -

As of this afternoon the chiefs really aren't in bad shape in the AFC:
NYJ - 4-2
*Steelers - 4-3
Oakland - 3-3
Miami - 3-3
#Colts - 3-4
Buffalo 3-4
Kansas City - 2-5
Sandy Eggo - 2-5
*Houston - 2-5
Browns - 2-5
Jacksonville - 2-5
Baltimore - 1-5
Tits - 1-5

* Teams we have beat
# probable division winner

Obviously this list excludes the 6-0 teams who are also projected division winners.

We still play both the Charges and Raiders twice, the Bills, Browns and the Ravens - we really do control our destiny.

Flame on.

The only "playoff caliber" teams in the AFC, IMO, are the Patriots and Bengals.

The rest of the AFC is as up and down as the Chiefs, playing well one week then looking awful the next.

This is pure speculation but if the Chiefs play like they did today against their remaining opponents, they'll be a playoff team because they'll 7 or 8 of their remaining games.

Keep in mind that after next week in London, the Chiefs have 4 home games and 4 away games, two of which are against really bad football teams in the Browns and Ravens.

Win in London, win 4 at home and steal 2 on the road and they're a playoff team. But once again, I'm just describing what would need to happen, not what will happen.

The Chiefs should have thought of this before they dropped games to the ****ing Vikings and Bears.

A lot of posters predicted a 1-3 start to the season and had us making the playoffs because of the soft, squishy interior of the schedule we were given.

That's now gone, and there's no way we're going 5-0 the rest of the way in our division.

I agree with your first two paragraphs. But, Dane, be honest. Do you find the combo of Alex Smith and Andy Reid capable of pulling off that kind of run?

I don't.

I don't really see Sandy Eggo and ChOakland as being that hard to sweep - assuming once again that the offense can produce some and not turn the ball over at critical moments

We could have won the Denver game if not for two (one critical) Charles fumbles. We also could have won the Bengals game if not for a critical Kelce fumble when the game was 21-15

That two game swing puts us at 4-3

After seeing them both bumble the majority of the last 25 games, I'd say no.

But it's a weird game and anything can and usually does happen.

So for one more week, it's possible. But if they drop the Lions game, it's pretty much over, IMO.

Yep. Too late now, they already blew it. About the best they'll do is 8-8 but even that's gonna take some work. When its all said and done, they'll probably finish 6-10 which means IF a college QB emerges as being something special, the Chiefs will pick too far back to get him.

Because Chiefs

There's only 5 teams that even have a winning record... so I think it's entirely possible for a team or two from this giant pile of slop at the bottom to make the playoffs. I wouldn't bank money on it being the Chiefs. But while unlikely, it's probably more possible than most people in this thread would expect.

Let's put it this way, there are SEVEN teams in the AFC that are 2-5 are worse. That's almost half the conference. That's pretty amazing.

As it stands today, the Chiefs are ahead of all of them. There are only three teams between the Chiefs and the Steelers in the last playoff spot. The Raiders, Dolphins and Bills... and we play two of those teams.

That also affects the "tank for the #1 pick" discussion. People think we're clearly in the lead for that, but there are twelve teams with 2 wins or less. That's almost half the league.

Well we aren't beating Denver. We are never beating then with Fivehead, even though he is a shell of himself. So that gives us six losses. That allows us maybe one more loss. No way the south gets a second team. The east with the jets and dolphins could be our downfall. That is assuming we go on a run, which I doubt

Playoff thoughts?

I think the Royals, with their Swiss Army Knife approach, have a good chance to win the WS.

I'm still gonna say we win 8 for some reason

I originally said 9, but losing Jamaal...maybe is good for 1-2 more lost games

so maybe 6-8 wins is my best prediction now.

If we can get in the playoffs with 8 wins that would be funny as hell.
