Jenkins to IR, Avant signed, offense should be better.

Im pretty happy about this. Jenkins offered nothing aside from a would-be big play that ended with him surrendering a sure TD by running out of bounds of his own volition.

Avant knows the offense, and moreover, is pretty damned sure handed. Id really like to see what the details of his signing are, but I have to believe that this just made the offense better. Hell, he cant be any worse than AJ Jenkins at worst.

It would be great to have another receiver out on the field that could compliment Bowe, and perhaps even take some of the attention off of him. He should fit right into this offense and hopefully be able to contribute against the Broncos.

If anything it will be refreshing to see a WR that actually catches passes that Alex puts right on him.

I talked about it in one of the other 5 million Avant threads. Whacking off to catching the ball like it's the thing that separates good from bad WRs. It's not.

Our WRs who aren't Bowe certainly suck, but it's not because they have questionable hands. And that's if they have questionable hands at all. I think of the abortion squad of Hemingway, Hammond, Jenkins, and Wilson, only Hemingway has multiple drops on the season, and he's got like 2 or 3. Big whoop. If those WRs never dropped a pass, people would STILL say they suck.

And again, it's not just about dropping passes. It's about trusting a receiver to make a play on the ball.

Smith is a safe QB. I doubt he trusts Hemingway on third downs. I doubt he trusts any of those guys to catch a back shoulder throw, a jump ball, or a throw in traffic. You don't think Smith might give more targets to a receiver who knows how to play the ball in any situation? I just don't see Smith trust any of the above receivers the way he trusted McCluster last year, and that's not saying much.

Why does Smith not trust Hammond and Jenkins? Neither of them have recorded a dropped pass on the year.

He seems to be cool with throwing to Bowe. But doesn't Bowe drop a bunch of shit?

I saw somewhere that he is getting 1.05 million for the remainder of the year with a little over 100,000 signing bonus. Will be free agent in 2015

It can only help. He is not a speed WR to begin with and never has been for those complaining of him not having speed. He is a possession WR which quite frankly right now is more important in sustaining drives so that we can continue our red zone efficiency of TDs because we are dropping way too many passes when they are thrown. Speed would be nice yes, BUT we haven't had it all year at the WR position and have done quite well to this point. Yes you all are correct that we do need someone who can stretch the field in a dominating way at WR but there is no one at this point and Avery is Jenkins to me. You can't count on him. And I think Reid realizes this and wants possession now and speed later if it ever happens. I think you will see Reid begin to stretch the field with DAT as time goes on when Avant gets going.

Hammond and Jenkins are your vertical guys for a QB who doesn't like to throw deep. They're not your go to guys on, say, a 2nd/3rd and 5. DAT was an upgrade for McCluster on the short YAC stuff. They haven't found McCluster's replacement for check downs. Hemingway has been just shitty.

Why does Bowe get the ball? It's not because he's so much more wide open than Hemingway. Bowe seems to be the only receiver Smith trusts even if he's tightly covered. Your claim is that route running and getting open has a lot to do with it or getting any more separation. I think Bowe is proof that there's a lot to be said for a guy who knows how to play the ball even when covered. Have you ever seen Smith throw to Jenkins' back shoulder? Ask Hemingway to catch a jump ball? It's clear that Smith has a trust with Bowe and had a trust with McCluster that you just don't see with any of our slot receivers.

So again... it's not just about dropping passes. It's about being able to catch the difficult ones as well. Jenkins and Hammond are just fast guys who can catch stuff that hits their hands.

It is. Receivers who cannot receive, well, they are the worst of the worst. Decoys at best. Guys who are just out there to occupy a defender. If you cannot catch the football, you need to play DB. Or better yet, GTFO.

Youre a complete ****ing idiot if you believe that a wide receiver that has the capability to make circus catches as well as the basic ones is just as easily lumped in with guys who cant catch a cold.

Our WRs who aren't Bowe certainly suck, but it's not because they have questionable hands.

Really? Its the reason Hemingway cant see the field. How many wide open drops has he had? More than enough to relegate his ass to special teams for the rest of the season.

And that's if they have questionable hands at all.

Not sure if serious. You don't think a dude that drops wide open passes has questionable hands? Troll lol lol looooool.

I think of the abortion squad of Hemingway, Hammond, Jenkins, and Wilson, only Hemingway has multiple drops on the season, and he's got like 2 or 3. Big whoop. If those WRs never dropped a pass, people would STILL say they suck.

If Hemingway caught those passes he dropped, he'd still be on offense. He'd be getting passes thrown to him, because he can be trusted to catch them.

Why the **** would you throw to a guy you don't believe will catch the ball? If he's wide open and and drops that type of pass, how is he going to catch it with a defender draped on him?

Bowe would get more targets as well if he could hold onto the ****ing thing. On 2nd and 11 from the 1 foot line against the Seahawks, Smith put the football right on Bowe on a slant. Drop.

Wonder why Bowe doesn't get thrown to...... Hmm.

He's like a gun that doesn't fire. A grenade that doesn't explode. A toilet that doesn't flush.

He doesn't complete his basic ****ing function as a receiver, to catch the god damned ball.

Avant easily has the best hands of anyone we field at WR. He may not have speed or explosiveness, but you toss him a slant on 2nd and 11, he makes the catch that nobody, not even big swingin dick Dwayne Bowe can make consistently.

KC doesn't go deep a lot because the O-line is leaky...The dink and dunk is by design...masking deficiencies.

We''ll see what Avant brings...but from what I've seen this season ...he looks like a good fit for what they are doing. I actually thought KC was going to sign him when Philly let him go..

Ive been banging the drum on sure handed, possession WRs for this team...Chiefs had one fall in their lap.

Lay off the Adderall, bro.

You have to get the girl in bed before you **** her. Saying catching is the most important part of playing WR is like a virgin claiming he's a great lover.

Hemingway has 3 drops on the year on 21 targets. That's not good, but let's not ****ing pretend that people would still not bang the table for an upgrade over Hemingway in the offseason if he actually caught those two passes. This isn't the ****ing butterfly effect, dumbass, where making those two routine catches turns Hemingway into a serviceable WR2 (or even a legit slot/backup WR).

You have to be a ****ing moron if you think the main reason why Smith won't throw to Hemingway, Jenkins, and Hammond is because he doesn't trust them to come down with the clean catch.
