Alex threw the ball down the field quite a bit after the bye week.

It's just that a lot of those passes were dropped.

Based on previous data, one would need to agree...but previous data didnt include Andy Reid.

Reid drafted lots of speed at receiver and always ran offenses that pushed the ball down the field and had a long talk with Alex Smith during the bye week about that specific element of his game that needed drastic improvement and Alex responded by answering the call.

I think Dorsey will target a speed receiver with good hands as well as a quality tight end to help Alex continue to push the ball down the field.

It's not like he doesn't have the physical tools to do so...I am lead to speculate that his lack of downfield passing in the past was due to lacking options from his receiving corps to get open deep, but time will tell.

The more Alex uses his mobility as a weapon and teams are forced to over compensate to slow down our short game (Alex scrambles, throws to the tight ends, screen passes, runs by Jamaal, etc) those are the exact things that open up the deep passing game. If they can add a guy like Cooks to get open deep, we might be able to see both Alex and Jamaal have rape years.

I know some will laugh, but I could see Jamaal averaging nearly 7ypc for a full season if teams have to keep safeties back because they respect our deep passing game.
