Spurs completely destroy the Cavs tonight 103-74. Boston is now the #1 seed in the East. Cavs are 8-10 since the AS break and seem to be in a spiral. Is this the year someone other than LeBron wins the East?

I think so. Both the Celtics and wizards are playing better than the Cavs. I think by the end of the season the Cavs will be the #3 seed and I don't think they're winning too many series playing how they are now.

I was at that game. Raps looked so bad for most of this one and we considered leaving early. Glad we didn't. A mad Serge Ibaka and the huge comeback W.

#1. The Celtics and the Wizards aren't good at all. The Raptors with Lowry are a better team than both of them and they aren't good either.

#2. LeBron and the Cavs couldn't give a shit about regular season games. They could finish 8th and it wouldn't affect how they do in the playoffs.

It's hard to say. The past 2 years, Lebron was a totally different player in the playoffs. His supporting cast is miserable on defense, but the team as a whole is much better than the team that almost beat Golden State 2 years ago in the Finals.

That being said... I was always a big supporter of Blatt and wonder how much of this is coaching. I wonder if Lue got the Romeo rebound effect (Romeo couldn't discipline players worth a shit, but he did extremely well that half-year where Haley handed off a disciplined roster to him). The Cavs don't hustle and lack the toughness I saw under Blatt. And isn't it interesting that while Blatt pushed for defensive presences like Mozgov and Shumpert... since Lue took over they traded for soft defensive players who can shoot 3's like Channing Frye and Kyle Korver, and gave away Delly and Mozgov.

But you just never know. Cavs could turn into a totally different team in the playoffs. If they play like they are playing now, Stevens' team is going to bruise the living hell out of them.

This is the same discussion that goes on with LeBron's teams in the regular season every year. When will everyone learn these games just don't matter to them (and most importantly, to him)? They're certainly at no risk of losing to a bunch of try-hards in Boston once the real games start.

Lebron will predictably be much better in the playoffs. And he's carried bad teams before.

But I think the supporting cast has real problems they didn't in years past. Lue consciously made the decision to go with undersized guys who can shoot. And now they have some very real problems down low unless Sanders plays well coming back from the grave. While Lebron hit another gear in the playoffs, they also did well because the supporting cast hit another hustling/toughness gear. I just don't see that happening this year. I think Lebron has to kick it up 2 notches to carry this team.

But they'll probably make it out of the East because it's the East.

The Celtics are very good. And both them and the wizards are better than the raptors even with Lowry.

And have you watched the Cavs lately? This isn't their normal coasting to the playoffs. They're legitimately bad and Lue literally has no idea what he's doing. I don't think they'll make the finals unless they step it up majorly in the finals.

When has any LeBron team been THIS terrible down the stretch heading into the playoffs?

Except they're not. I don't know where the hype is coming from there, but the Raptors have a much better point differential than both of those mediocre teams, they added Serge Ibaka at mid season, and they've played without Lowry for a significant portion of the season (one of the top 15 players in the league).

Same nonsense I've heard about the Cavs in the regular season for 3 years running now. They've made the finals in both of the previous two years and won a title. Joke teams like the Raptors, Celtics, and Wizards aren't going to put up any more of a test than they have in past years against a motivated LeBron.
