But what movie has made you shit your pants? Kept you up at night? Gave you that sinking feeling? Made you afraid to leave the house?

Of all the zombie movies, that one still creeps me out the most. Being black and white, it has such awesome use of light and shadow. And since it's the first zombie movie, they didn't go overboard with the gore.

Jack Nicholson is absolutely awesome in that movie, so it is with much regret that I say, The Shining mini series with the dude from Wings (Stephen Weber??) is better and hangs to the book. If you like the Nicholson version, they you should check out the Weber version. It is really good. Complete with mobile hedge animals instead of a stupid maze. Also, his wife is hot - Shelley Duvall is not....

the survivors are sitting in the suv when the ground shakes. a foot hits the ground very close to them. they look up and the creature walking over them is so big they can't see it's belly cause it's in the clouds. they know it's absolutely hopeless. they can do nothing to survive against something like that. story ends with them just sitting there. I thought it was much better than the stupid movie ending with him killing his own son.....which was bad enough, but then to have the soldiers come rolling out of the mist 30 seconds after he kills his son was just too much.

I see several comments about Under The Dome being so good it should be made into a movie. I read that piece of crap and could barely finish it. absolutely TERRIBLE. worst SK book ever. anyone else read this thing?

Loved the ending to The Mist the movie version. I have never read the book.

Books and film are too completey different mediums so a different impact is needed sometimes.

movie audiences usually reject ambigious and open ended endings to movies. Endings like the book had just dont translate to film very well.

if they didn't want to use the book ending then I'da thought they would have had the soldiers come rolling out of the mist BEFORE he shoots his kid. as a parent I just did NOT like that that at all. I mean you already had parents in the mindset of...oh shit I'd have to kill my own kid!! yikes!! mission accomplished...AND nicely done by the way - putting the audience in that mindset. now save the day already. sheesh! total fail ending. tuly surprised King was OK with this.
