Anyone else a little worried that the Broncos are going to mail it in and stick us with the 5 seed?

Yeah, but if they did that then there may as well not be divisions. Maybe there's an argument to be made for that though. That is, get rid of the divisions and simply go by record alone. The top two teams get the bye, the next two teams with the best records get the home wildcard game, etc.

This Sunday, the Steelers don't have to worry about anything, win or lose. They can rest everyone and finish with a worse record than Miami. And Miami doesn't have anything to play for either. But without the current structure they'd both have to put out maximum effort because it would be the difference between a road playoff game and a home one.

The Texans, who have clinched, may also be in that mix under pure record system. And with the Phins fighting for a home spot, the Patriots would also have to fight too because if they lose and the Raiders win, the Raiders get the #1 seed (I think).

The regular season rivalries would be rendered meaningless though, so I guess how one feels about it would depend on how much they value the history between teams.

It's an interesting idea, but one that's not going to happen.

In the grand scheme I know it all evens out and there are games like the Chargers game and Falcons game we had no business winning yet did. That said, the Titans game in particular was just an absolute blown opportunity that was 75% Andy, 20% DAT, and 5% Alex.

Totally agree...the fans on OM are wanting them to basically throw the game..lol

I have always failed to comprehend this logic. Why would the playoff seeding system render rivalries obsolete? The teams will still face each other home and away every year.

Not surprised - they're all idiots. Chiefs kicked our asses and rubbed it in our faces with Poe, so lets throw the game to **** them out of the division title.

exactly. The only change that needs made is home games are based on record in the WC round. Sorry but if you win your division with only 8, 9 or even 10 wins, you shouldn't be gifted a home game. Shit, you shouldn't be gifted for anything winning a shitty division.

Sucks for them because regardless what they do, they end up helping a division rival. Damned if they do and damned if they don't.

I don't know if it'd render them obsolete but it'd definitely make them less important. Just look at this weekend... it makes the Chiefs/Raiders rivalry the difference between a bye and a first round road game. There's a lot on the line.

I like the system the way it is though. There's no way to make it fair because not everyone plays the same schedule. The first year you change it, somebody is going to complain because Team X had to play the AFC West and Team Y got a home game because they played the terrible AFC South. There's always going to be a flaw... so I like setting it so that division rivalries determine home games.

With these two starting QBs in the Oakland/Denver game... I'm not sure we really know what to expect. I don't think Denver will mail it in, but will they be really focused after such a letdown? Lynch will play hard though, for sure... it may make a difference between Lynch getting the job next year or Elway going out and bringing in a veteran.

They benefit more if they lose rather than win. Besides all of the Donx will be hungover after going out on NYE and getting smashed and shooting people.

It won't be for that purpose though. It will be to get a better draft position and because they don't give a shit. But I think Denver is so terrible now, they would lose regardless of if they tried or not. They are simply a bad football team.
