Has anyone done a juice fast?

I have been battling migraines since I was in elementary school. They would come and go, but since high school I will usually get one every other day. On the pain level they are usually anywhere from a 7 to a 9. This past year I have been getting them every day. I have tried ever type of holistic type medicine (fever few etc.), I have tried everything over the counter you can get, and I have tired at least a handful of perscribed medications from my doctor. I asked him about a juice fast, because I watched an intriguing telelvision show regarding juicing, and I have read numerous articles. He told me that he would recommend giving it a try. He said the amount of processed foods I eat is most likely playing a major role in contributing to my inability to sleep at night and also my migraines.

I bought a $130 dollar juicer from Bed Bath and Beyond. I will be buying my goodies on thursday. I will start my 60 day juice cleanse on friday, because I don't work on saturday or sunday and I am sure I will be in the restroom quite a bit. Anyways, I am hoping this works for me, because these past two or three years have been rough. Family issues, personal issues, weight and health issues have made me feel like an old man. I am hoping to kind of rebuild my body and take care of it like I should have been doing.

All that just to see if anyone here has any good juice recipies? Or any advice on juicing?

I have already stocked up on aids water and anti-freeze and the aids tree in the backyard is already on fire.

Here's what I do: Put a bunch of kale in bottom of blender. A half can of pineapple. A half a banana. 6 oz or so of water. Blend. Add ice to thicke and cool. It's really dealing good. Probably should use fresh pineapple but can't be bothered.

I can vouch that juicing does work. Experimentation is the best thing for juicing. Everybody has their own tastes. As long as it's fresh fruit and vegetables, you won't fail

my mom gets bad migraines and there is a huge food list, with lots of foods that make migraines worse. There's so many things she can't eat because they'll give her a migraine. You should check that out. http://www.webmd.com/migraines-heada...specific-foods

But um, marijuana is probably the best thing for migraines. Too bad my mom is old school, she won't try it. It's natures cure-all (almost) and too bad it's still illegal, could help lots of people safely.

Not knocking your enthusiasm or the juice diet but please consider this, food for thought.

You may actually be treating a symptom (the migraines) instead of the cause.

Migraine triggers (not exclusive):
Reaction to preservatives in processed food
Stress
Lack of sleep
Skipped meals (cause for concern with a juice fast)
(all things you have mentioned)

Pretty much a given, migraines have tend to run in families.

However, highly suspect of triggering migraines, is a reaction to the preservatives (also known as SHIT) in processed foods you say you eat quite often.
Preservatives include sodium. Processed foods typically contain extremely high amounts of sodium. High levels of sodium can cause high blood pressure. High blood pressure can result in headaches. This may very well be the cause of your migraines.

The stress you say you are experiencing can also trigger for migraines (I’m sure this is nothing new to you) and you are locked in to a vicious cycle/circle. Stress equals eating food full of preservatives which (possibly) triggers the migraine, creating more stress. You try to dismiss your stress by eating processed food which causes weight gain. Then you stress about the weight gain and the cycle starts again.

Has your doctor ever suggested or discussed trying a, “migraine cocktail” first? This can sometimes break the chain of migraines. It would be done as an outpatient and takes approx. ˝ hour to infuse.

A reasonable juice fast to rid your body of toxins, recommended and closely monitored by your doctor in conjunction with the “migraine cocktail” may prove very beneficial toward alleviating your migraines.
Changing your diet to exclude ALL processed foods is not an easy task but it sounds like you are committed to getting rid of the migraines and your mindset is half the battle.

Whatever you do please make sure you are closely monitored by a physician. Good luck!

There is another documentary that Joe Cross has a part in called "Hungry for Change". It has a lot of good info. about processed foods, sugars, aspartame, & other sugar substitutes.

I will have to check into the "migraine cocktail" I have definitely not discussed that with him. My issues are kind of piggybacking off each other. I have had trouble sleeping since high school, I have tried many different things (melatonin, lunesta, ambien etc etc) and havent really found anything that works. One of the side effects to my lack of sleep is migraines. So it's a vicious cycle. I cant sleep so I get migraines, then I have a migraine so I cant sleep. My doctor is trying to take a natural step towards my migraines. I told him at this point I am willing to try it. The crap in processed foods was discussed at length, and he feels that may be a big trigger for me.

I have done a 30 day and 15 day. The first 3-4 days suck donkies. If you are on caffeine get rid of that addiction first before you fast, and just makes it easier.

I am a big guy, have aches and pains and decided to try it. I really never felt better in my life. Made my skin clear up made me feel a ton better and wish it wasn't so expensive or I'd do it more often. Find some recipes you like and good luck. I honestly think you'll feel a ton better, but just remember the first few days suck but stick with it

Yeah, you can get the jumbo size bags for a pretty good price. I think if I ate shakes all day long, it would be pretty expensive. I usually have a kale shake in the morning for breakfast that includes kale, ginger root, celery, (fruit, either apple, strawberries, or blueberries), and cucumber. Combined with a cup of coffee, you certainly get "cleaned out"

I second the Vitamix suggestion. Its expensive but its soooo awesome. I make ice cream out of frozen fruits and vegetables and nothing else.

I can't imagine what it must be like to constantly suffer from migraines or the toll its taken on you and your family. I'm sorry you suffer from them and hope whatever you try cures them.
I truly hope you find relief and very soon!
Please keep us posted.

I wish you the very best of luck!
