Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Can Alex Smith win a Super Bowl?

No.

Therefore he's part of the problem.

Better than bad does not equal good enough to win, and that's all that matters.

In addition to that, ProFootballTalk is reporting that the deal isn't done until it's done, meaning that either side can back out before March 12th.

So, I'm just doing my best not to overreact because the parameters of this deal could be far different than what's being reported.
I hope its a swap of picks, would make this alot easier to swallow.

You know, in a way, the compensation for a QB doesn't matter at all.

If Alex Smith works out and this team wins postseason games, nobody will care that we paid a 2nd when we supposedly could have paid a 3rd or 4th.

If he doesn't work out, it will be a bust whether he was a 2nd or 7th.

The problem with QBs is not the picks you give up, but the years of your franchise you devote to them. If Smith busts, we won't care about the 2nd rounder, we'll only care about the 2-3 lost years.

Reid and Dorsey probably didn't get where they are by knowing nothing about quarterbacks at all. I will defer to their judgement for now.

It's unlikely but one can hope...
It was also mentioned that no other team wanted to give them two picks for Smith. Now, we're giving them 2.2 and another 2nd/3rd based on performance.

We are paying more than a first round draft pick for a guy who was going to be cut in two weeks.

What are the odds....

Of trading back and picking up an extra 1st (if we move back into the teens) and a 2nd and still going after a QB. Geno won't make it past the Faiders, but maybe Barkley?

Repeat about 2000 bad decisions for the next four years until the worst team in the NFL results.

We're done placing blind faith in people who have done nothing to demonstrate that they should be given it. Show us you have earned our faith and we'll give it.
I understand your frustrations. But know where I am coming from as well. The 49ers were down right terrible for a decade. I mean just flat out bad. Top to bottom. Owner (we still have the same owner but they let their son Jed York run the team now), coaches, staff, players, etc. If not for all of that dysfunction, Smith could have been in a much different situation right now. He is just starting to blossom and he is still young as far as NFL QB's goes. It's much better than taking a gamble on a college QB (in a down draft year for QB's) and keeping your fingers crossed. You now have a QB that can make you a better team from day 1.

That's probably what will happen.

I think Reid has a God complex when it comes to QB's. He thinks he can fix them all.

Just been told that as it stands right now, Matt Barkley is the only QB on the #Chiefs draft board.

Yeah, because 2009 only sucked because of the years we lost for Cassel. It had nothing to do with what we could have done with that pick to add more players.

I'd say it's about zero. No one wants the top pick. It's equal to picks 2-10 this year and no one is going to give up anything to take it.
