Geno Smith vs Alex Smith - It's on.

It's on now. Geno Smith is probably going to be starting for the Jets this season.

Alex Smith will be the Chiefs QB for the forseeable future. If he's a success, we'll probably get five good years out of him.

So who's gonna win more NFL games over that time period?

Put your ten pounders on the table and make a vote

Alex: 11 wins
Geno: 8 wins

If Alex would have twisted his ankle in the fashion that Geno did...you would not hear the end of it from this board.

That said, side by side...Alex was more impressive last night (if you can say that) than Geno simply because I read on this board that Geno was a sure-ballot HOFamer and he looked average...at best, last night.

It's hilarious that Claynus wants to keep pimping Geno, the checkdown, short passing game in college, but then wants to bitch about how Alex Smith checked it down last night.

It's just sad the lengths the most worthless evaluators on this board (Tribal Welfare, Claynus and ROR) will go to to discredit a touchdown drive.

A ****ing touchdown drive they want to bitch about.

I don't give a **** if Smith throws 8 bubble screens a game and gets 300 yards out of them. I want the ball moving down the field and touchdowns on the board.

Smith did that. You don't get extra points for forcing the ball down the field if there was nothing there.

True, but I'm sure you understand that last nights passing attack won't be there or work entirely all year. They're going to have to push it down field or teams will only defend a 15 yard square.

That said, it was 1 drive in the first preseason game where the saints dropped 8 into coverage for the most part.

Yes, I understand that the Chiefs are going to have to use more of the intermediate passing game.

It was one drive where Alex took what the defense gave him and it was 7 points. That's what it is.

I want him to take what he is being given rather than throwing into triple coverage.

Sure.

But he's going to have to be confident/able to fit it into tight windows at some point.

I'm hoping our QB is smart enough to take what the defense gives us. If teams do start only defend a 15 yard square do too short passes or dump offs then that is the time to take a shot down field. Open it up that way make them pay. The question is if Alex Smith can deliver that ball precisely down field for our guy to make the catch? That is something we have yet to see. We can't just dump it off to JC the entire game and expect him to carry this team. Needs to spread the ball around to the WRs down field.

When the opponent is dropping 8 guys, a smart QB checks it down. Anyone who is complaining about his checkdowns and not recognizing the coverages is a clown shoe. He made the right plays.

I wish I had seen Alex against a more aggressive defense, but he threw against what was presented, executed the offense, and we got 7 points. I'm not going to bury him for that, but it's not like he showed too much either.

I think you are failing to understand the concept of the west coast system. It's about the accurate short to intermediary game spread out to multiple receivers and backs. It's also the concept utilized in the Spread systems that Ault and Meyer pioneered in college that basically has dominated that level.

The defense can "stack the box" all they like, the offense is set to have enough options that the defense can adjust to all of them.

It's why Reid coveted Smith in free agency. A guy who is very accurate, doesn't put the ball into the defenses hands and is smart so that he can pick up and understand the playbook and implement it in a game time situation.

It's about taking what the defense gives you. Don't think that one single drive in the first preseason game which was designed as "vanilla" that didn't have a pass longer than eight yards means that you aren't going to see deeper passes thrown for the rest of the year. You will. But they will be there when they are available.

If you want to see bombing with regularity, become a Lions fan. Both Stafford and Johnson are in the league leaders in yardage and the ball goes downfield often. However, they continue to pick in the top five in the Draft every single year.

Personally, I'm ready to start seeing some checkmarks in the win column with a regular shot at the playoffs each season. If that means a controlled, calculated offense that is based on ball control, time of possession and high accuracy, low risk passing, then that's what I want.

And I don't think that anyone should complain about Reid trying to get the ball into Charles and Bowes hands a lot versus trying to throw downfield all game long to Baldwin and Avery.

Gannon was a good improviser.

The only time the play broke down Alex scrambled for a 1 yard loss. People around here compare everyone to Gannon.

7/8 with the only miss coming on a smart throw away. Yep Alex sucks-lol

Let's hope we don't have to see any of the other QB's on our roster though.

Agnew- nice job setting the record for burns in a game. Hope they left him in N O. That is probably the worst CB performance I have ever seen- Mighty Mouse JR. Even Trent Green and his triple rose colored glasses couldn't make it sound good.

Harris- Practice team- hands of stone. I don't care if you are 7'1 if you miss TD's catches your worthless.

I was talking about Dex in another thread and he delivered in a Big Way. What a weapon- I hope this is his break out year.

I'm sure you understand that when they clamp down on the short routes the longer stuff will open up then we are all good.
